In light of the report from Autoblog referenced below, looks like the full functionality of Laserlight could be approved early next year.

https://www.autoblog.com/2018/10/11/...lights-safety/

Is this something that will be able to be coded following final regulatory approval?

Probably. I think they are just coded at the factory to turn off the more advanced features.

That's outstanding and long overdue. Regarding your comment of "early next year" do you have any other sources as far as how soon it could happen? The article referred to a public comment period and also preparing new testing methods. Knowing how government bureaucracy works, that could be 2 or 3 more years.

So already I've noted two post-delivery changes I'd like to make/code:

1. Change my US-spec Laserlights to match EU spec.
2. Code the brake force flashing third brake light.

I'm not sure about the coding thing. Because BMW has to currently put conventional non-laser headlight lamps in for low beams, I do have to wonder if it's a hardware thing, and whether software could fully make US-spec cars function just like the rest of the world.

I would hope at the least that this would allow dealerships in the future, or an over-the-air update, to re-code no dazzle high beam that is currently decoded in the US spec G05 and other BMW models.

I don't have any prior experience as a BMW owner, so I'm not sure how desirable this would be. Anyone care to weigh in?

Interesting. My 2018 540 has this feature, but it is coded off by BMW for US-bound vehicles. I wonder if this will result in BMW making available an update to turn them on once the formal approval is given.

Thanks to the OP for posting this.

I think it might be coding. I have a G05 on order (don't have production week yet because some of the features are December), but there's a line item on the order which makes me think it's coding. The line is "5AP Decoding for no-dazzle high-beam assistance." Certainly no expert but thought I'd share.
