Oil pan gasket "seeping" oil

I had my 228i for an inspection at the dealer because factory warranty is about to run out. They said oil pan gasket is seeping oil but it is not bad enough to require replacement. Once seeping becomes leaking they have to fix it. I don't really care TBH because it is CPO and I'll definitely get rid of this thing before CPO runs out. But I'm still wondering if anyone has had the same experience? Dealer saying repair is not needed because it's is seeping not leaking? And also, what is really the difference?

A seep is a very small amount of oil that is probably lingering around a seal or gasket. It will "seep" very small trace amounts over the span of months and maybe even years and isn't a cause for issue. It's bound to happen to every car over time because metals expand and shrink with heat and cool downs over and over again. Your car will be ok and there's no need to worry since it's documented and you have CPO.

Just curious, are there any suspension pieces or structures that the prevent the oil pan from being simple unscrewed and dropped ?

I am not familiar with 2 series but I know dropping the oil pan is a huge pain in ass on e90. 2 series is probably similar.

I am kind of surprised though, in my experience VCG and OFHG are more susceptible to failure than OPG.

Very common issue on the E9X.

seeping probably means the gasket is wet. it'll probably just make a mess after a long time.

the overall basic design of bmw's has been the same forever. to pull the pan and change the gasket you'd have to support the motor top side, then remove the subframe which has at a minimum the steering rack and control arms attached. not to mention the motor mount on it. they probably can't justify the work for the amount of seep.

OP, you've documented with the dealer that the oil pan weeps oil. I think that that means that BMW NA is on the hook to fix it when the seep increases to an unacceptable level.
