BMW live cockpit configuration?
Can anybody make comprehensive review of new BMW digital cockpit? What is configurable what is not? I see that european speedo goes asymmetrical 20-40-60-100-140-200-260 with irritating numeric speedo in the middle. Can the numeric speedo go off? Can You set digital speedo to be symmetrical with indexes between 60 and 80kmh for example? Maybe some like, but asymmetrical speedo is so irritating for me, it remains me of Audi where 100kmh is on the top.

I've watched a couple of the G20 reviews closely.
I saw that within the iDrive menu, is a item to switch the digital cockpit display colors according to the drive mode, or to keep it white in all modes (this is such a silly thing imo). Also, via a steering wheel button, you can select what, if anything, is displayed inside the tach on the right side of the display. I saw a reviewer toggle between an Entertainment display, an HP and torque display, a g-meter display, and a trip display (miles, avg speed, avg fuel consumption). That was it, and I fear that that is it. I don't want to go there again, but the whole idea of this sort of display (any GUI really) is to provide user customization, and BMW's display provides next to none. Very disappointing, especially considering what Audi and Merc are doing.

I want to actually try our the virtual cockpit first before jumping to conclusions but based on what I've seen so far in review the customization does seem a little lacking.
A lot of people are complaining about the way the speedo and tach go backwards so an option to show a digital version of the traditional analog gauge will please so many people. Also a better map display will be nice similar to the Audi Virtual Cockpit.

Oh that's nice. It'll be interesting to see if it will the chrome ring style like in the 2018 3 or the style that's base in the 5 series and X3 with the physical numbers and filled in by a screen.

I think that there is no physical numbers or hands. Only chrome rings and screen

This is one of the things I really don't like about the G20. Maybe I'll grow to like it, but I feel like using the gauge cluster from the new G30 would have been far better. It looks more traditional BMW while also being fully digital and customizable.
Maybe the new hexagonal shape will become a thing, who knows. |

I am really hoping the traditional instrument cluster is available on the m340i. I just don’t like the implementation of the digital cluster here. I love it in the Audi A4, this one just doesn’t look right and doesn’t seem as versatile.

And where did that picture come from? H/K is not possible with the traditional cluster in Germany...? Last edited by 320iG20; 10-10-2018 at 02:37 AM.. |

I think that film protectors have future not only for displays (they scratch them in cleaning service) but for every gloss surface in interior. Something similar to Xpel films for the headlights.
