x5 50i compared to a glc amg63
I am all set on my order for an x5 50i but was watching a you tube video of the glc amg63. since i dont have kids or any need for lots of room i am questioning my x5 decision a little. the glc with the v8 seems to run out pretty good and could be a lot of fun to drive.
Have any of you considered the option and what are your thoughts? |

You should also look at the upcoming x3m which would probably be same perf as Macan turbo with a slightly downmarket interior and a lot less money.

So when time came to buy wife's daily driver, started the journey looking at GLC/GLE. Drove beautifully. FIRST thing my wife, who I'd normally not expect to care about such things, complained about? "That display... it looks like they glued on iPad to the dash." It seriously does look like the interior designers said: "Oh, s***! We forgot about a display. Let's just plop one here on the top of the stack." The next gen GLE addresses this by fully integrating two side-by-side 11.9" panels. But honestly? The little I've used iDrive, it seems superior to the MB COMMAND user experience. Their new MBUX infotainment system is forthcoming. And while my AMG was in recently for annual maintenance, I was given a brand new '19 C300 as a loaner. The cheap feel of the switches -- and the iPad glued to the dash -- drove me bonkers. Very, very disappointing. I remain passionately in love with my AMG. Nice driving to car shows with my F1 buddies who drive (sweet) Ferraris and Porsches and having them concede mine is the more powerful car. And my MY14 cabin, including the display, is wonderful. But gotta say... I'm going out of my mind with anticipation, waiting for our week 40 G05 to arrive. I've joined BMWCCA, getting up to speed on coding, and just generally can't wait. Not convinced BMW "M" will ever overtake AMG in my book, but below the high-performance trims... feeling like we are becoming a BMW family.

i have not test driven one yet. they expect a couple mid october, right around the time i need to lock in my december build. I like that the car is a little smaller but the ipad suction cupped to the dash seems just weird.

I think the guidance to the consider the X3M or the X5M when those become available is sound advice, if what you're looking for is V8 heft and if you can wait. That said, if you can live with that iPad on the dash, go for the GLC. You will never regret having that motor under your hood.

Curious if you looked at the macan. You can add options to it up to the price of an x3

I did drive the macan turbo and the macan s. Both myself and my wife drove the car. We like the styling of the exterior and interior better then bmw and mercedes but unless in sport mode and holding revs at the top end neither cars impressed with getup and go. We went next door and jumped into an x3m40i and that did a better job putting a smile on our faces. We then jumped into an 18 x5 50i and it felt close to the x3 but had that v8 sound.
When we test drove back in 2017 i was impressed with the x5 50i but it was my wife's car and she went with the q7. I have been watching the x5 development ever since. |

Pretty certain the X3 M40i you test drove is about as much a "real" M car as the GLC43 is a "real" AMG, i.e. without a real M/AMG engine/suspension/steering/tuning, etc... neither is fully deserving of wearing their respective marque's highest performance trim designation. Will rely on others more conversant in "M" to explain the variants.

You just took the words right out of my mouth! The displays on both MB & Audi look like pure aftermarket products...epic design fail! |
