How much was deposit and how did you negotiate selling price?

Going to dealer this week to do paperwork for a M2C allocation. Please let me know a reasonable deposit to pay and how to negotiate MSRP without having to pay a mark-up.

I got my allocation in June and only put down $1500 for a deposit. With regard to a mark up, good luck with that. I think that part is going to be driven by supply and demand and the dealer you choose. I got pretty lucky I believe. It took me until June to decide on the Comp instead of the 18 M2 (had to have a sunroof), but by that time I couldn't get a build slot from any of my local dealerships. I called one in MD, and they gave me the slot they spec'd for themselves. They built the car exactly the way I wanted except for the seats (changed to blue trim instead of orange). I lucked out because he also removed the $5k limited availability markup since I was retired army. Hopefully you won't have to deal with a markup. They're several available at dealerships at this point and I don't believe they're listing them with a markup included.

Once you spec a car at the dealer, all dealers I've dealt with require some deposit; the amount vary usually from $1500-$2500. The car then will have status, priority-1 sold vehicle, meaning it's spoken for. If dealer requires no deposit, either that dealer has no allocation or playing game .....when car arrives it can be sold to someone willing to pay more etc, it happened.

as far as price MSRP is the going rate though I thought there was a dealer in no-man's-land South Dakota for $2k below MSRP

Thanks for the info. Yeah i'm ok with a $1500-$2500 deposit to secure the vehicle. Good point on the "no deposit" perspective. I hope to pay MSRP plus any discounts available at time of delivery.

Appreciate the info and thank you for your service to our Country! I am eyeing a perfectly spec'd 18 M2 but that dealer is not budging on MSRP right now.

The sunroof was [first] available in US on the 2018.

I don't think there's any luck involved in avoiding markup - it's down to customers refusing to pay it. I def would not feel like the dealer is doing me any favors by taking ADM off the asking price, esp when it's the best-selling M car.

Dealer wants MSRP on a 2018? Only in Cali... Incredible that they won't budge when the 2019 is already being delivered with the 'new' engine and other upgrades (seats, mirrors, etc.). Madness...

I gave a $1,000 deposit after offering $1,000 under MSRP for a M2C allocation. The dealer had one left after multiple interested parties flaked, and we settled on a $500 discount.

Yeah my thoughts exactly! There is another BMW dealer in Southern California that has discounted their 18 M2 $5000+ but it's not spec'd how I would want it.
First choice is M2 Comp. Fingers crossed all goes well for me this weekend!

MSRP is definitely achievable, but be prepared to walk if you dont get the deal you want.

I put down a whopping $5k deposit, which is at least twice what's normally requested, but I think that's cz I was out of state (MD resident ordering car from TX), wanted ED, wanted manual. I was planning to put down at least 3x that much, so I just considered it part of the down payment.

As for negotiating, I simply asked if they would do ED MSRP and they said yes. If they hadn't, I was prepared to bail. I suggest you negotiate the selling price and get it in writing at the time of deposit, including the part about getting any factory discounts available at time of delivery, though I would not worry about that one as there is almost 0% chance of that happening.

Thanks for the info. ED would be awesome but how much time do you need to allot to travel and the whole buying process to make it worth it?

5k down and I just asked for MSRP. They called me back within minutes with an OK.

First dealer wanted to 10k over, but came down to 5k. Obviously I walked.

Same deposit here. Started at 10k over MSRP, but I made sure they knew I was ready to walk at *anything* over. Ended up #2 on their list. #1 guy (who happens to be a friend) is doing ED, so I actually got mine first .

I would go for at least two weeks since BMW gives you free auto insurance for that period of time, but you could go for less time if you don't have much to spare. As for advance notice, you don't need a lot - I've heard of ppl doing ED on as little as 45 days' notice. Mine was set up just over 3 months ahead of departure.

It's worth it if doing ED is important to you - it's just a little extra paperwork so long as the dealer is willing to do it. I'd have done it even if there was no ED discount [read: like Porsche] but I insisted on getting the ED discount since BMW has one (tho technically dealers don't have to honor it - and some don't, if they can even be bothered with ED at all). I spent less money than I saved by getting the ED discount, so it was worth it from a purely financial standpoint, but that was coincidental for several reasons and I didn't really expect or care for that to happen - just wanted the experience.

I would put a deposit down and get the price and allocation slot in writing. Also, use a credit card, that way the deposit is always refundable.
