Standard LED vs. Adaptive LED: anyone has close up pictures for comparison?

Standard LED vs. Adaptive LED

Does anyone have up close pictures to compare? I'll be ordering soon and honestly I could care less about the executive package features. One thing I noticed when selecting options on the build page, the Adaptive LED headlights appear to have a darker surround than the standard LED. Is this the case in real life or just the way it appears on the 3D rendering?

If they actually are darker I need to decide if it's worth $1200...

Thanks in advance!

It's not HID's vs. LED's. It's standard LED's vs. adaptive LED's. I've had non-adaptive LED's on my 340 for a couple of years and while massively better than Halogens, lots of folk have done threads about adaptive LED's providing better visibility. I won't have first hand knowledge of it until I swap cars, of course.

Alright. Well, either way, I'm curious if there is indeed a difference in the surround color since it appears that way on the build page.

There are pictures buried on here comparing the standard (non-adaptive) LED vs the adaptive LED if you are good with the

But the adaptive ones don't really appear darker [in the surrounding area] in person - the configurator just makes it appear that way. They are, however, surrounded by the new "hex" corona rings (new for 2018, that is) vs the round coronas of the standard (non-adaptive) lights, which look similar to the rings from '16 and '17. The "hex" corona rings are also a bit brighter.

The real kicker is that the adaptive bulbs are higher output. I found it hard to believe and it doesn't make sense, but apparently it is the case. Not only do they swivel, they are actually brighter.

I've been wondering this question too. I did notice that the car the reviewer is standing in front of in this Edmunds video review has different headlights. It still looks like it has angel eyes, but they're not the same partial hexagon shape. The rest of the footage looks like the adaptive headlights.

The B roll shots in the beginning are non-adaptive. He is driving a M2C with adaptive headlights.

I know it’s not M2C but I have adaptive LED on my ‘18 LCI and there is no comparaison to standard LED in terms of brightness and looks. IMO of course.

i absolutely love the adaptive headlights. Both the look and the performance. The auto high beam dimming is very trick as well, works well.
