Seized/sheared brake bleed nipples- anyone else?

I was due to get the Alcon brakes taken off my old 335d this week, and the original blue Brembo MSport brakes re-fitted. There was an issue with both calipers however, and all 4 nipples are seized and one has already sheared off.

I had a similar issue with the rears, and one was replaced under warranty, and I don't think this is an uncommon issue.

Anybody else had this?

Also, for anyone who has had to deal with this but not under warranty, can you let me know what you did, in particular if there was a company you dealt with that refurbished and repaired them.

There's a few for sale on ebay, but reluctant to buy used ones with same issues!

Thanks,

Yes, quite common.

I often buy & sell these calipers, and have had two incidents with siezed nipples.

Not helpful now, but would have been a good idea to loosen them off before storeage!

Brake Caliper Refurbs on FB are the best in the business to fix these for you.

I'd found them earlier and was going to get in touch with them. Ballpark price?

That’s the one, yes. I’ve had work done by him before - excellent.

I think he charges £35 per nipple, plus return postage costs.

It could be work buying something like Rusteeze and if you're not in a rush then spray some on and leave it for a few days. This should/could work and save you a lot of money.

Its probably worth trying it for somewhere around a tenner.

Because the nipple and the calliper are not the same material the oxidise and corrode together and they can be horrible to get off.

Fingers crossed it all works out for you....

What is the effect of that? I mean, how did you know that there was a problem?

I've been experiencing a rubbing sound recently from my driver's rear wheel area and I'm wondering if it might be the same issue.

The car's already booked for the 14th of Sept anyway.

Doubt that's the issue, the bleed nipple is only in use when bleeding the brake system, so would only be noticeable during a brake service.

I put my f30 in for an MOT and brake fluid change today and turns out one of the nipples are seized so they are checking the rest and asking bmw to cover it! I'm 1 day out of warranty just waiting to hear the outcome

Sounds like a sensible idea. Ive just has those callipers repaired, and the front pairs cost me £160 all round for all 4 to be done, so wasn't too horrific.

Who did you use mate? As I stated above put car in for brake fluid change and when I contacted them this morning they said the car requires two calipers and they have put in a good will request to bmw as the warranty expired on Thursday just waiting to hear the outcome but if I'm having to foot the bill I would rather get my calipers repaired than spend £1200

Mine had the brake fluid done a couple of days ago and I meant to ask how the nipples were but I had no notes on the worksheet about them or any replacement callipers so I'm assuming it all went fine...

Likewise. I can only assume mine went fine too as you'd expect them to make a big thing about it if they sheared off.

There is preventive maintenance.
When the car is newish most know it's a good idea to remove the wheels and apply copper slip grease or similar to the wheel hub centres ( but NOT to the wheel mounting faces or the bolts!).
At the same time you can apply grease around the protruding threads of the bleed nipples. It can prevent corrosion if it's caused by moisture seeping down the threads.
I believe it's helped for me in the past.
