Now that people are acquiring them: Lease residual on M2 Comp?

Anyone know what the residual is on the M2 Comp? Is it just as bad as the OG M2?

Thanks!

A 63% residual is substantially higher than j expected, considering the OG one was 47-50

Thanks guys, mind sharing your state?

I don't think 63% is for the US. Check out the pricing subforum. Lease rates are still just as bad:

so with $2k down and 10K/year we are looking around $1100/month tax included? that's awfully high.

Yep - because they want you to either buy the M2/M2C or lease an M3/4.

equally equipped M3 is actually $100 cheaper, I am hoping the price will get more realistic or I calculated wrong...

Not only is it high, in comparison it's worse than the OG M2. Speculation/question That's either because the M2C is even more desirable so they know they have you over a barrel in terms of buying it.....OR....that S55 engine can't take the miles and therefore is worth even less to most people after that point in its life?

Thoughts welcomed.

M2C residuals are currently worse than OG M2 residuals because BMW obviously wants to get rid of the OG M2 inventory. I wouldn't be surprised if the residuals and incentives got even better for the OG M2 in the next couple months compared to M2C. Same thing is happening with the F90 M5 too. 2018 F90 has 10% higher residuals than 2019 F90 because BMW wants to move all the 2018 M5 inventory asap.

When OG M2 came out in 2016, lease residuals were just as bad as M2C now. I got quoted around 1100 a month for a lease which is bonkers on a 52k car. Lease residuals stayed bad and were always in the 40s range until the M2C was released. First time i've seen lease residuals in the 50s for OG M2 but of course this is due to the dealer trying to get rid of them.

With the M2C now, you can either buy only or lease M3/M4 for around the same price. Which basically means BMW wants you to get M3/M4 lol.

Thank you guys for education, leasing a M2 for 36m. is the same monthly payment as a purchase for 60m. Would it be smart to lease than buy and get it written off from the business, or just better purchase it?

Got it. So finally something has come along that I want more than the M3 and the M3 becomes a "deal"

Checking the corporate partner program, I'm definitely able to get an M3 for less/month than M2C which is not even available. Since I would not have to drive it every day, I should probably buy the thing and just drive the wheels off as opposed to holding for a couple years and returning even though that's what I want to do.

I am sure your calculations are just fine - they do this on purpose, because the profit margins are so much better on an M3/4, they can raise the residuals and lower the MF to a point where it's cheaper to lease a car that is much more expensive, MSRP to MSRP.

Last year, I was getting out of my 981 because I needed more practicality (only have room for one car), so I was interested in an M2. But they were hard to come by, and had terrible lease rates...but my F80 ZCP was sitting there on the lot, and the dealer was trying to move them...so they took it down almost to invoice and I got a good finance rate, and I ended up in the M3 instead.

If you want an M2/M2C, you have to really want one, and in most cases, you are going to have to buy it in order for the finances to make sense. At least that seems to be the typical path for most of the folks on here.

Correct.

It's the entry level BMW if you are purchasing...the leasing realities of the M2/M2C are much different...

Unless you lease for 3 years with the intent to purchase at the end of the lease, correct?

I might be wrong, but that route would be more expensive in the long term, right?

If you know that you will buy it eventually, won’t it make sense to buy from the beginning ?

Yeah but at that rate you might as well buy. The interest rate will be lower and you'll pay less over time. There are also other factors like acquisition fee, etc.

It usually is more expensive, but if it's close you might want to lease anyway. This gives you an out and if the car was in an accident or damaged and suffered diminished value after repair, it's now BMWFS's problem.
