Modifying Stock Exhaust

Instead of dropping 5 to 10 k on a whole new exhaust, can anyone speculate the impact of modifying the stock exhaust silencer, resonator, and/or baffles? Any experience with this?

Solid X Pipe instead of the resonator should make a big difference. Competition Exhaust is the resonator with less holes and makes a nice difference. No hole would be even more so.

Know anyone who has done this? Wondering about cost, feasibility of modifying these components, and finding a shop I trust to do it. And then, I don't know if there'd be any warranty issues or not.

I would not worry about warranty unless you start removing catalytic converters.

PM Quickburn. He did that mod and loves it.

Yes. You can order and install yourself (I did), or have your dealership do it.

I also did this and had my dealer install it. $400 for the labor and just over $2000 for the exhaust including the additional two clamps needed.

Any noticeable sound difference inside the cabin? Would you do it again?

No difference in normal driving, which I like since my wife doesn’t want it to be annoying. In Sport and Sport+ it’s much louder when you are really getting on it. Also the crackles and pops when you let off the throttle give the car a more beastly feel. I would do it again.

So I installed the sport exhaust and then had a custom X pipe made
Using a shop with a mandrel bending machine and 304 stainless steel.

I also think the pipes are different on the
Sport exhaust not just the resonator which I deleted.

I paid $1900 for the sport exhaust and $430 for the custom x pipe.
The sound is a bit deeper at idle and much much louder at startup
In efficient mode is about the same as stock from what I remember ( mine was stick for only 2 days)
In sport plus you do hear the difference and with my sunroof open it’s night ab day. Really worth the $.

Stock cats which I won’t touch. I’ve brought the car in a few times to the dealer and never any issues regarding the exhaust mods came up

I thought the competition exhaust is the same as the M sport, just cause the tune, makes it a bit louder.(not hardware)
Where as the M performance will be different totally.
Am I wrong ?

Edit: never mind just saw the other thread.

Thanks for the insight. I'm very interested is seeing what I can do with my completely stock exhaust via modifications, including a non perforated xpipe and maybe removing the silencer all together. Could give a wicked sound for much cheaper than Akra or M performance, especially since my exhaust valves are fixed permanently open. Speaking of M performance exhaust, can these be ordered now? Not talking about M sport...

M Performance is not available yet. I wish they would at least release the price.

Put someone in the car to start and rev it. Stand behind the car with your phone and video the exhaust pipe. Put the vid on YouTube and post it here. Or email the phone vid to me at deskins@comcast.net and I’ll YouTube it and post it.
