Key Probs

Evening all, I wondered if any of you wise folk on here could advise me on a slightly unusual prob that I’ve been having over the last week with my key/s.

Started last weekend. I’d driven to Windsor park and left the car for about a couple of hours, came back and the key wouldn’t open the car. Not a peep from it. The battery had been replaced about a month before with no issues. I opened the car with the key, the alarm started chirping but got it under control once I’d put the key to the steering column. It seemed to work ok after that but i decided to swap to use the spare key for the time being until I’d had chance to check it out. Then after a week of no issues with the spare key, the same thing happened to that one as well. This time the car was open after unloading following returning from a journey and it completely refused to lock the car - even though it would start it after putting it to the steering column. I’ve had to revert to the original key as the spare doesn’t seem to be working at all now.

I’ve had many beemers before without ever experiencing this, anyone else had anything similar?

Did you replace the battery quickly? It might be worth trying another battery.

The car was previously giving me a dashboard notification that the remote battery needed replacing, which stopped once I’d put the new battery in so assume it is fine.

It feels more like it’s an issue with the car intermittently not recognising the remote signal (given the chances of both remotes failing) - but not something I’ve come across before.

Defo try another battery. Sounds daft, but I bought a couple of CR batteries a while back from a reputable outlet; both were pretty much dead from the packet. Sales guy apologised and advised that it’s not unusual for thus to happen with all the slightly rarer CR batteries.

Also worth adding the mobile App to your phone as a backup if it has the lock/unlock feature?

That’s a good idea, I do have the app but had forgotten it had that ability!
