G05 X5 Configurator Now Online

Including the new M50d with 400hp & 760nm torque!

Still only translates into 5.2secs 0-60 in such a huge tank.

Also there's a choice of three 22" wheels, the largest ever offered on a BMW!

The colours are attrocious across the bmw line up. There are maybe 4 interesting colours across the entire range excluding individual.

Every colour is going to look bland when you see your Snapper Rocks Blue car every day, it's so bright it's probably reduced the sensitivity of your cone cells!

Very true. Apparently some of the Police dogs had to take early retirement after looking directly at it.

Think X5s get uglier each generation. Unfortunately, they also get wider 2004mm 2217 mm with mirrors is a way to wide for British roads, garages and car parking spaces.

A good thing about this new generation is the air suspension. Pity they do not make it available on the smaller X3. The lack of it on the smaller car is pushing towards a Macan for my next car.

I do struggle with BMW's colour choices these days.

I have to say I'm still a BMW fan boy at heart..but he Air Suspension in the RRS is night and day a superior ride to any prior X5 I've driven. Absolutely superb, no doubt BMWs execution will be excellent.

High praise for the new M50d powertrain here.

I'm 2 days into what seems to be turning into a five day test drive (yes, really!) in a RRS. I don't have the X5 as a yardstick, but have to agree that the air suspension is superb. It's a wonderful insulator. Steers better than a F3x too.

You'll not want to give it back after that amount of time!

I have an X5 and have driven a few different iterations of the RRS and the ride and sound insulation is better in the Range Rover, no question. Both steer better than the F3x. My 330d didn't have the VSS which would be an option I'd tick every time considering it was only a couple of hundred quid.

Yeah I don't know whether it got an update for the latest model year, but in all JLR products I've been in it's absolute guff.

The ID6 and touchscreen hardware in the X5 is pretty slick, can imagine the next version in the new G series will be excellent again.

That's right, I'm already thinking of it as 'my' car.

I too missed on ticking the VSS box, not realising how they could have gone so far backwards from the E90 LCI.

MY18 RRS got a major facelift which also includes the new twin touch screen infotainment. Very good but not as good as ID5 never mind 6 or later. Good enough though.

Is that bad that I'd still prefer a XC90 to the X5? I think looks wise it's got the better on most large SUVs at the moment.

Chaps what about:-

- XC90 looks exterior in mineral white R line
- BMW Engine and Idrive
- RR Suspension (air) and off road
- Tyre Valve Caps from a Q7
- Porsche ladies on reception at the dealership for the buying experience

= Best SUV of all time
