What's people's thoughts on debadged?
I noticed someone had that as one of their priority mods.
Is it to keep people guessing? I do like the idea of a mundane looking bmw but that's secretly rocking a chipped 440i or 435d xdrive. Mine didnt come with any badging, and I think the xdrive logo and 435d on the back would look stylish, but again, perhaps better to have poodle guessing. Wiry the permorance kit, m4 spoiler, and 20 inch allows, I think people acutely assume it's faster than it is, given its sporty look, and so leave me alone trying to race when I just wanna drive home, But also, given that it's a reasonably fast car, especially now when chipped, I've had to learn which cars are potentially faster, becsuse the number is fairly limited. I know not to try owt with an audi that has Rs badge on it, but if its just the s badge it's likely similar. I didn't realise how powerful they are which goes some way to explaining their piece. The only other one I can think of if the merc c63, and obviously any supercars. I'm guessing I've missed a lot out? It would be good to know |

I like cars debadged - one reason is that it makes it easier to wash and polish the car.
My M40 has no badges - I like the way it looks just like an ordinary X3. Keeps the car under wraps. I know somebody who always gets a base MB and insists on getting it debadged so that people dont know he has a small engine. Each to their own....... |

Definitely no need for xdrive badges, nor any badges down the flanks or wings of a car. The edrive badge on the C pillar of my company 330e bugs the hell out of me!
I had the 335d and a few other cars debadged, as I'm another who liked that it made cleaning easier, and not attracting attention, but I started to think sometimes that something was missing. Not enough to put them back on though! M4 badge is staying on, as there's no hiding it's an M4 really, and it's only a small and simple badge anyway!

I prefer to debadge. The rear looks cleaning. Also I love surprising people once the MPPSK opens up and all hell breaks loose.

Had mine de-badged before i picked it up as i prefer the "clean" look of a car without badges.
A majority of the public dont understand what the badges mean and those that are interested will know what the car is by looking at it anyway, either by the exhaust / trim / body etc. With replica badges cheaply available from eBay you could have a BMW S4 with 4-matic and 99% of the public wouldnt have a clue that it is a really a Kia.. The majority that debadge do it for those cleaner looks and make washing, polishing easier.
Very few likely do it to hide badge power (unless it's a low power engine). Pretty much all my cars have been debadged. |

I always debadge but for the opposite reason; I like the anonymity it brings and if others think I'm driving a 320d they're less likely to want to try to show me how fast their car is!

De-badging is just plain boring. Go to Germany to get the full effect. Bunch of boring MF's.
An original E30 with no 325i badge on the back would just look unfinished, I don't think anyone would dispute that.....why is an F30 any different? |

Debadged all my cars. Prefer the look and as others have said, I like to keep people guessing.

Always specc'ed mine without badges - not for cleaning though & I've always had x35ds or x30ds before the 35d existed - they just get shoved through a car wash once in a blue moon as they've been mile munchers to date and I've got better things to do with my time - no other reason than I think it gives a cleaner look...
As you say the 35d will demolish most cars on the road from a standing start - especially when tweaked and when it is damp... Just don't take on the latest M3/4s, RS4s, C63s, etc. A Tesla can be an embarrassing thing to take on but have comfort its range will have plummeted if the driver floors it for long and it may not make it home All that changes when I get my M3 - specc'ed with badge on & I'll have to clean it myself - life can deal you a duff hand from time to time |

I like the look of the debadged car much better, I especially hate the X-drive on the back and the M's on the side. Also I find the engine badge is just a case of willy waving and unnecessary. I have a 3 or 5 series, what's under the bonnet should only concern me, for everything else it's the same as any other 3 or 5 series.

Mines debadged. Although it doesnt stop people asking what it is, and their response is always, "Wow, bet that's fast being a 4 litre!"

Some brilliant points made here and astonishing for me to know only a handful of cars and all audi RS cars (which are a fair bit), are the ones that will likely be faster,
However, for me, I've found how powerful your brakes are, how darring you are to hold tight and put your foot dowm, and how good you are at controlling the car across empty 70mph dual carriageways (doing say 95) split by large roundabouts. I find I'm useless, probably from being used to driving rear wheel bmws for so long, so really slow down as I go round the roundabout whilst little hot hatches don't even slow down you can literally see the tyres glued dowm and the whole body tilt diaganolly and back again as they zip round lol |

It's probably my age but would never consider a debadged car, back in the 80's I seem to remember in car buying tips it was always flagged as a tell-tale sign to look out for a cheap accident repair and found a few, I know that's rubbish today as it's offered as a option which wasn't common back then
I was behind a debadged 1 series in traffic last week which had a number plate from a well known car supermarket and I couldn't help thinking the same But as always it is personal preference and this is just my bias |

On the opposite case...Saturday I sat in traffic alongside a base 318. No 318 badge on the boot, but very prominent non-oem M badges there, on the front wings and on the centre of the original-fit wheels. Very amusing.

When I see a debadged car, I immediately think you've bought the bottom of the range. Even more so now BMW have put twin tail pipes as standard now.
