VT'ing Car

Has anyone VT'ed their car? I am about to do this. Have found some template letters to use from LegalBeagles.

When the car is collected, what happens with the registration document?

It was really simple when I did it last year. No need for legal letters, just called up BMW FS told them I wanted to VT. They sent some forms over, I signed and sent them back. A few days later I got a call to arrange collection. Man came over, looked round the car, said there's about £150 of touch ups needed and took the car away. BMW FS then wrote to me and said they weren't fussed about the £150. All done and dusted in a couple of weeks from the original phone call.

Similar experience for me except my "damage" totalled £240 ish.

Interestingly, my M235i went back in mid March and it's only coming to auction mid August. Turnaround extremely slow.

It's a very easy process. the v5 is signed as you normally would if you sold the car.

the Bca inspectors are very very very thorough, but bmw don't seem to care so much as long as the car is in reasonable condition. you will get charged for any excess mileage.

Exactly this utterly painless and BMWFS are very good at helping, I had loads of advice and they sorted it all.

I agree but it also depends on the OP's financial circumstances. OP, as you may know from Legal Beagles you may not need to sign anything if you cannot afford further payments or settlement.

Pretty much identical here, we kept the car until we owed 56 pence, then made the call. Utterly painless. Got a new Bmw finance agreement last month on a new car, so no worries about “marks” on your record.

Actually the car is immaculate - even the alloys are unmarked. Was going to give it a wash'n'vac. The only reason why I am VT'ing it, is that it's 2k in negative equity against a trade-in for a new car. My own fault for putting lots of options on as these don't seem to mean much when it comes to trade-in price.

If it's that painless, I will probably go through BMWFS.

How did people handle the insurance? The car to be VT'ed will still need to be insured until it's collected.

Yes but you can call your insurance on the day or in advance. I usually say until 12am the following day. If anything happens then it won't be on you as you have a time stamped and date stamped copy of paperwork saying you parted with the car.
