Tyres on new car.
Has anyone ever tried to request a particular brand of tyres on a new car?
As far as I can tell, it appears to be pot luck what brand of tyres you end up with. Seems to be either Bridgestone or Goodyear for the most part. Everyone slates the Bridgestones, so was wondering if it was possible to request the Goodyears. I appreciate I can just ring the dealer and ask the question, and I will, but it would be good to know if anyone else has tried. Ian. |

Either way, consider immediately swapping them to non run flats so you're able to sell all 4 as brand new shipping mileage, probably covering almost the cost of your new tyres, Michelin pilot sport 4 (or something along those words). Much more of something to consider if you have an M Sport suspension and large alloys, given the tough crashes over potholes and tramlining.
I'm fairness they were acutally ok on my old 19" alloy 4 series, but horrendous on my previous 19" alloy 320 coupe... Must have spent several grand over a few years in new alloys that would crack, and new tyres. |

I lived with the Bridgestone tyres that came with my car when it was new. They were horrible - crashy, slipped sideways on bumpy corners, noisy and not great in the wet. The only thing they were good for was wear - the damned things lasted 36k miles (with some winter tyres use too). I swapped them for non RFT Michelin MP4S and the difference is night and day. A far superior tyre - more refined ride yet significantly better handling.
So, my advice would be to swap them immediately while they have some value. You will enjoy the car more with some decent tyres. |
