Is there any pics of radio removal? I read a post that menioned....
Mentioned removing another panel to gain access to the back of the radio without removing the radio. I wonder if this would work to gain access to where to plug in the isimple. Anyone have an idea? If not, is there any pics of how to pull out the radio?

See this thread:
http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105298 The removal was a piece of cake when I did it about 8 months ago to install an AUX connection. I used a credit card to remove the center vent and then there's a couple Phillips screws that hold the radio in.

Thanx, now that I've read a a little about the isimple. I think it needs to be connected to the cd changer wire in the trunk. I need to find out where it is tucked behind and try and run it into the cab.

Otherwise you can access the CD changer wire from behind the radio unit (next to where the AUX plugs in).

I can access the wire, but I wonder if the isimple is only made ot connect to the end of the wire where it was supposed to connect to the cd changer. Do you know if it can connect directly into the radio?

Now that I've read some more I am thinking using the aux is better. Most people that use the isimple seem to only use it to connect to the radio as an input and just control using their ipod. I read that the aux input is only $40 from the dealer. Do you have a picture of the back of the radio?

This topic is a tad old, but this photo might be helpful:
While it's pretty obvious if you were looking at this on your own radio, this photo is upside-down. Also notice the position of the connector. In my case, there are 2 groups of 12 pins. This is the E46 AUX input kit (P/N: 82110149389) who's connector has 10 positions. Note the position of the connector & how there are 2 exposed pins on the left side. blue/white: pin 3 red/white: pin 4 brown/white: pin 10 |

LOL, that pic would have been SOOO helpful when installing my AUX. took hours of tinkering and changing pin positions until it finally worked.

Is the pinout correct? . . .
Quote:
I'm planning to attach the same kind of aux cable to my gf's '03 330xi w/o satellite . . . but have to ask you to clarify: is the brown/white wire supposed to be labeled 9 instead of 10? Because when I count from right-to-left on the bottom row, blue/white is at 3 and red/white is at 4 . . . but for the top row, your photo seems to show brown/white at 9. I'd like to fabricate my own cable in place of P/N: 82110149389--it would be easy for me, esp. since I need a male connector for her Sirius unit--but I need the right pin positions on the BMW head unit. Also, if you remember which colors belong to ground, left and right, that might help, too :-) Finally, this fellow seems to have a slightly different setup . . . I guess the head units must vary, since the other pins all look slightly different: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1236293 Thanks very much! |

I think I may have answered my own question on pinouts: on an E46 with a Business Class radio, this PDF seems to cover the details: http://www.ge39.com/files/EBADoc11512-auxin.pdf
