Any suggestions for Snow Tires and Wheels ?

Hello I am considering a 2018 BMW 640I XDRIVE
GRAN TURISMO. I currently have a 2014 328IX GT Gran Turismo. I have extra spare 18 wheels and snow tires on them. Does anyone know if these wheels would be usable. I realize the tires would the wrong size. 225/50 -18 is too small but Tirerack has none listed yet and the dealer could only recommend the exact same size. I normally go down one size but the choice and availability is really limited for this car. Thanks

have you asked your dealer? My Alaska dealer was really good in discussing details of snow tires.

any size 18" up will fit as long as it is 5-bolt, however traction will be affected if not as wide. I would put would widest tyre size you can fit on said alloys

Well I bought the 2018 640IX GT M sport with 19"-8.5" wheels and 245/45-19 run flats . Regarding the snow tires, the size needed is 245/50-18 square. the wheels need to be new 5/112 bolt circle, 30 mm offset found on the 2017 G11, G12 and G30 G34 . It means the extra wheel sets from my 2014 328 IX GT do not fit and I am selling them. I am getting some 2018 740I base take off wheels which are 18" x 8. I am probably going to put on Michelin X3 Snow tires on them but I am still looking. I will try to post photos.

Well here is the 640 GT M Sport with 245/50-18 wheels. These are stock OEM wheels off a BMW 2018 G11 740 IX. They fit perfectly with the proper offset height, width. These were takeoffs and they have Pirelli RunFlats right now. I plan on mounting Michelin X3 snow tires in 2 months or so.

Benefits of Minus 1 Wheel and Tire 18" vs 19" or 20"

Benefits:
Much Smoother ride - 50 series tires vs 45 makes a difference...even with runflats
less chance of blowouts and bent or cracked rims from bad roads and potholes
Lighter wheel gives faster acceleration
less chance of curb damage on wheels...note how to tire sticks out a bit more than on a 19" 20" etc Keep in mind the OEM stock G11 740 rims I used are 18" x 8" vs 19" x 8.5" That 1/2" makes a big difference on how close to the curb your rim is.
less expensive and greater selection of tires

Negatives:

doesn't look as good or modern... totally get it

Their high speed control and handling is not as good as a 19" or 20" rim they say. Honestly This is not an M3 or sports car and I do not drive very fast so I don't feel the difference much.

In New England with old rough roads and broken pavement it makes alot of sense. If your roads are smooth It is probably does not much difference. I have been doing this for years and I haven't cracked a rim or bubbled a tire since.
