Cool, thanks for posting!

For the layman (I’m learning all the time!), what are the reasons for the Ferrari getting off so quick? Is it actual power/torque in low gears or ability to plant the power quicker (tyres or something else?) or something else?

BMW recovers impressively I might add!

Its because of its normal aspiration, and throttle response. The throttle in a 458 is like switch, that reacts to the slightest of pressure, its ready absolutely all the time. Even the M5 with 4 wd, cannot match the throttle response of a normally aspirated Ferrari V8. Once rolling though, the torque in the new M5 is killer, it just piles on the speed.

Also the M5 driver let me launch the speciale before to get some advantage in the race.

I have another video launch at the same time and the m5 just go away pretty much instantly!!

the M5 was 2 fat guys inside, in the speciale only me and my 11 years old son. so m5 is like 250 pounds extra between the driver and passenger. not counting the 1k pounds extra in the big sedan car.

no surprise here,
even my ex stock M6 F13 Competition was as fast as 458 italia (regular)
(after piggy back tune it was just insane fast: 6.0s 100-200 and 5.3s 200-250)
Ferrari has a problem that every car may have differet power.
You can check GT Board Videos, some 458's are as fast as 997 Turbo PDK, some regular 458 are faster then speciale's, some are just a little bit slower than aventador...
It all depends about specific car...
my 458 is pretty fast for stock:
100-200: 6.7s on regular conditions, 6.1s best winter time
hopefully one day i'll find someone with new M5 and record a roll race;p

I don't know why but 458's are pretty "slow" here in Brazil. There was a roll race event (2mile stretch), and a W222 S63 AMG 4Matic (non facelift) stayed neck a neck with the 458 in speeds in excess of 270 km/h. A stock M5 F10 also managed to stay neck a neck and even overtake the 458 over 220. Noone could really understand what happened. 458 are pretty rare here, especially any that frequents these events.

The 488 on the other hand is also slower here than in the rest of the world. The 488 lost to the 991.2 Turbo S stock from 100-250 on highway professional tests. Don't know why or how that happened but it did.

It's difficult to answer
But I can belive You it happend.
Maybe Ferrari is cheating about the power?
Maybe Ferrari not maintained properly is loosing it's power over the years?
What do I know for sure that BMW used to have (or maybe still has?) some factory bonuses and they seems to be fast cars

Too bad that i don't like new M5 (it looks like 520d with MPackage) howerver this is my subjective opinion. Waiting for M8 Cp
