Pass restraint system fault after removing seats

Last week I picked up a e92 08 335i space grey on red leather with 100k mi for 12k.

Yesterday I removed the seats without disconnecting the battery, shampooed the carpet, and cleaned the leather. Getting the seats slightly wet. After letting the car dry and plugging in the seats I get a pass restraint fault.

I dig som digging and I found a few things that can cause this fault. The seat mat senor getting wet and not disconnecting the battery when removing seats.

I am wondering if there is a computer in the footwells that I could have gotten wet that would cause that fault as well?

Does anyone have experience with this or have any insight on what caused this fault and how I should go about diagnosing or resetting the fault completely?

Apreaciate it.

Double check that the pins are not out of line on the yellow connector. The Y pin can pop out of it's slot sometimes. You don't need to disconnect he battery. You just can't turn the car on with the seats disconnected. If you turned the ignition on, you will need to reset the code.

Ohh ok. I might have tripped the fault by turning on the ignition without seats. Hopefully i can just clear that code. How do I clear it? I'm under the impression that I need a special cable and computer software?

Glad I came across this. I did the same exact thing. Oddly enough, I removed the seats before but never turned the car on and no light. This time around, I removed the seats and had to move the car - thus triggering the light. My seat removal was for sub upgrade on my E93. Good to know it's just a simple reset needed. Just hate looking at the fault indicator.

Disconnecting the seats with the battery connected will cause a fault 99999.999999% of the time.

That's right. If you disconnect an airbag connector without removing the battery first and waiting 5 minutes, or remove anything related to the passive restraint system, you'll have a code that must be cleared with INPA, ISTA, or other commercial software.

There are some exceptions to this (e.g. passenger occupancy sensor), but that's the general rule of thumb.

I disagree. I have removed my front seats (convertible), with battery connected a few times for running wires, speaker sub upgrades, etc and have never tripped a code UNTIL I turned the car on this last time. I just cleared everything with my computer and I’m all good again.

Yes, took pix of all fault codes in case of any codes that may pop in the near future. No issues tho, as expected.
