M2C or Porsche 718 GTS
Hi all,
I’m curious what y’all think of the M2C compared To the 718 GTS. I don’t need the best numbers/specs on paper, but a car that would be more engaging with good driving dynamics. Which do you think would be better between the two? I know Porsche will be coming out with a new GT4, but I believe that will be even a tier higher than the M2C and will costs significantly more than a M2C. I know a 718 GTS can hit six figures, but My build is not that crazy. |

The M2C is an absolute steal at ~$59k. It will be interesting to see a match up between the two. They are not direct competitors, but fun to see.

Chassis: 718 GTS>M2C Practicality: M2C>718 GTS Suspension: 718 GTS>M2C (unless BMW delivers some magic here) Price: M2C>718 GTS Engine: M2C>718 GTS Transmission: almost equal, but slight edge to the porsche? Looks and interior: personal taste, so up to you In the end it depends what you want in a car: Both will likely be very good drivers cars for the street. The 718 will probably be the better car around the track (time wise), but the M2C with the 6 cylinder might be more engaging. I personally can't justify the price gap between the two (€25k?), love the 6-cylinder prospect, and I really like the practicality of having a backseat. You might prioritise differently. |

This is the best advice if you want more "experience" compared to pure performance, which is obviously better with the 718 GTS.

I think this is a difficult comparison to make. The M2C comes in at just under $60k while the GTS is $80,700. I think the 718 GTS is likely a better performance car in every category. It's really more of a pure performance/sports car.
But there's a $20,000 price difference. The real comparison should be between an M2C and a base 718, which come out to around the same price. In that case, I think the M2C is a better pick. |

It depends on what you're looking for. From a drivers standpoint it's hard to put a front engined 3600 pound car ahead of a mid engined 2900 pound car. 2+2 is a big plus though. |

The 718 GTS is the better car in almost every category, BUT it costs 50% more, depending on options, so they really aren't in the same niche. A standard 718 is a better comparison, and in that case, it only wins (probably) on chassis and driving feel, but is grossly overmatched in raw power and acceleration compared to the M2C.

As much as I like the M2C I would say the 718 would be better in both because it is a mid engine, 2 seater package in a smaller and a much lighter body. If you include performance and mod funs as part of your selection criteria then I would say the M2C. |

What do you consider crazy? With no options you are starting at ~$22k over the M2C. Everyone knows how Porsche likes to nickel and dime their customers. Even if you can get a discount on 718’s, it is still going to be at least another $25k. All need to do is ask yourself if the performance increase equals that $25k, if you think it does go for it. I’d rather have a 981 GTS over a 718 as someone pointed out above.

Having owned a S55 M3 and driven the 718 Cayman base and S plenty of times (plus owning a 981 currently) I will say that the 718 S/GTS is a serious piece of kit. The power and handling is truly addictive; blows my 981 base out of the water performance-wise. The low end torque makes the car an easier car to live with everyday while still adding to the overall joyous driving experience. Throttle response is pretty good, too - not as sharp as my 981 but good enough. Although neither are as good as my old e92 M3 in that regard.
Personally, I don't mind the sound of the 718; it's not great in comparison to my current Cayman but I don't hate it like some people. To me, it's no worse than my non-CP S55 was. However, I'll give the slight edge in sound to the CP F8x S55 over the 718 S w/ PSE. You really can't go wrong with either car, IMO. However, I have been spoiled by the 2900 lb curb weight of my car now.. so tossable!

I have a GT4 and a 17 MT M2 with a M2 comp on order.. Tracked both the GT4 is in a different league. I've also driven all variations of the 718 inc the GTS in both coupe and boxster. They drive great but the cost the GTS boxster was 97k and the 718 GTS cayman was 99k.
Even a low option 718S is low 80s. My GT4 was 94with the carbon fiber seats . The big difference is in driving dynamics because of the weight and the center of gravity . One is a great sports car and the other is a great sports sedan...Apples and oranges!! M2=3451 LBs GT4=3084 718=3050. You cant fight physics ,or mother nature. carl |

981gts or just the S (since the gts is mostly a package) is the best bargain per smile. The flat 6 sounds perfect. All Porsche transmissions are amazing. Only reason to get the bmw instead is if price or seat count is an issue.

One thing that i dont like on the M2 is the shift linkage to me it feels clunky. The GT4 is by far the best shift linkage ive driven over the last 55 years of owning MT cars. Hope the M2 comp will be better i read that they made some changes in the gear box. Well see. carl

Thanks and right?? Granted this is the lightest car I've ever owned. I was in the 3500-3900 lb area since I started driving so YMMV.. I can't even imagine an Elise or Exige! I still need to drive one.
