Somewhat positive news about the HPFP
So it appears to be that p/n 13 51 7 585 655, which is the replacement high pressure fuel pump can be obtained for ~$550. Originally when I looked up the part number for the pumps that came with the car it appeared that they go for ~$1500.
So even if the car runs out of warranty the cost for parts would a bit less than I originally thought. Can't imagine replacing the pump would be super difficult. If anyone has a DIY on this matter I would greatly appreciate your input.

It's cheaper than an extended warranty, that's for sure...

Based on what I've read in BMW tsb's and have seen for myself, it looks like an experienced tech can do the job in four hours + or -. If you have a good set of tools and have replaced an oil pump, or a timing belt at least, you could probably do this job yourself. Beyond the car not starting there's not a lot to screw up if the job goes wrong. Not like, say, having the t-belt off 180 degrees...
