Oil Change

So guys i went for an Oil change yesterday. i bought my oil and oil filter from canadian tire, i live in calgary btw. so i took it to the mechanic ( i know the guy well too) when he started working on it, he told me i don't have the correct filter and oil. he showed me a mann filter, which was nicer than the one i have, and showed me a MOTUL oil i believe. i said but the castrol edge 5w30 i bought is perfectly fine for my car, but he refused and insisted to use that oil.

i said yes, then after i drove the car, i was surprised. I HAVE NEVER SEEN MY CAR PERFORM THIS GOOD EVER. sounds better too. and drives so nice, so guys is this oil better than castrol edge?

thank you guys!

motul is really good stuff but i use liqui moly which is pretty much the same but a little cheaper. Most people running castrol and mobil 1 say that they burn through oil like water. It might also be a placebo effect but if you feel happy about the stuff then keep on using it!!!

He didn't charge me much for the oil and filter, like 80$ the car took 7.5 liters of oil haha. but the drive is super smooth and i love it! i might just stick to motul for good

That's my oil of choice. My old Indy highly recommended their Xcess 5w-40 for all around performance and engine protection.

He said it's what BMWs racing team uses. It's a great oil.

I have also heard great things about the Motul oil, shame it's hard to come by here in Finland :/

I have used Mobil 1 5W30 & 10W30 for years with no consumption issues. Change every ~5000 miles.

Not hating on other oils. Mobil 1 according to that same Indy is really good too. It's his second choice.

I just buy Motul off of Amazon for a reasonable price.

Maybe it is because Castrol 5W30 is NOT BMW LL-01 grade? Try Castrol European formula 0W40.

However, I some some minor oil consumption with it, and then went back to Mobil-1 0W40 (no longer LL-01). So far so good. I think I will stick with M1.

I use Mann filters. They are OEM. It is inexpensive, so no need to use junk filters that are not really cheaper either.
