Autobild Sportscar M5 comparison test

King of the track as expected. From 250km/h and on the E63S is a lot faster but no-one is doing much racing at that speed. Still though, overall the 0-300km/h for this example wasn't that impressive, not only is it not as fast as the E63S, it is also slower than RS7 Performance which was around 33 seconds in another Autobild's test (yes it's different day and maybe different condition but just saying) and about on par with F10 M5.

10.5 seconds too 200km/h. Seen that figure from many tests. While BMW quotes 11.1 seconds. Crazy.

Wonder if the M5 Competition can do 10.2 seconds. Not 10.8 seconds. Dreaming.

Wow. Blows the other cars away until 250 KM/hr. Road course performance is also phenomenal.

Another thing I notice is our launch control RPM is much lower than the E63S. 2600 to 3500 for the E63S to 5000 for the Porsche...That is quite a conservative RPM...

250 kmph is all that matters in the states anyways. Since ours are electronically limited.

That's because the F90 doesn't have a "real" launch control due to it having a torque converter trans while the others have clutch based automatics. In the E63s and Panamera they just free rev the car to any rpm they want and then dump the clutch. You can also raise the rpm higher in the e63s by clicking the right paddle which most magazines don't know. The m5's torque converter doesn't let it free rev the launch control is just a computer control brake torque launch. That's basically its stall RPM and any more rpm in the m5 causes the car to move or do a burnout.

I think you quoted the wrong post. I recognize that the E63S is an MCT and the ZF auto is a regular auto. I specifically stated that the RPM they are set at is low in comparison. The BMW tuners decided on an RPM - and I would agree - because that is optimal (not just for performance however - but also for the transmission, diff and axle health) - so I am not certain that 2600-2800 RPM is in fact the maximum stall RPM (in fact I would guess it is not) - or simply a BMW decision because of the above. The E63S - with ability to change launch RPM - is a nice to have - but to your ppoint, that it may not be beneficial as the (likely optimal) default MB setting (and would just spin if raised - or bog - if lowered). In many ways - this make the F90 times even more impressive.

Faster on a moderately technical track than a Z28 and a ZL1, which are ridiculously good track cars. 0-200kph in 10.5 seconds is simply amazing.
Almost makes you wonder why a competition model is even necessary

Impressive laptime, but I am finding this laptimes almost too good to be true. The Nurburgring lap time, and the Hockenheim lap time are on pair with what was expected, but Sachensenring on 1:34.36 is almost too good to be true. Anyway in June I will drive the F90 on track, and I will be able to chime my thoughts and compare it with the E63 S on track.

If that M5 had the Moonroof it would have been even faster!
