Car was keyed . Repaint or not ?

My 328i year 2000 was keyed . They did passenger side one door, drivers side both door , the hood and the trunk lid. The car only has 37,000 miles and has been washed often and well cared for.No mechanical problems.
I have an estimate of $3000 and another of $3500 for a complete repaint which is apparently needed
I can drive the car for one or two years more but I was thinking to trade it in early 2009.
Now the question ;Aside from the embarasment of driving a keyed car does it pay to repaint ? How much will it effect the value when I go to my dealer ?
It would cost me $ 1000 out of pocket for my deductble.
What should I do ?

Well, when you sell it one day, you're going to have to repaint it. You'd hate for any rust to occur as a result of you not painting it, as well. On the other hand, you seem to not be overly bothered by it and that is a hefty repair bill. If you feel like you can financially do it without any woes, then get it over with. If not, wait until $1000 doesn't matter as much.

Take meticulous photos of the damage before repainting to demonstrate to a potential buyer that it wasn't the result of a collision.

If it will cost $3000 or $3500 to fix, it will reduce the trade-in value by $3000 or $3500.

Fix it. And don't trade it to a dealer, sell it privately. You'll be ahead several thousand more dollars if you do it that way. Everyone is looking for an expensive low-mileage luxury car that gets better gas mileage than an SUV now.

+3 on the before-and-after photos.

Try simoniz scratch remover. Maybe that can lessen the severity of your key mark or completely solve it.

Those products only work when the scratches are in the clear coat.

I'm sure since he was told that it should be repainted that it really should be repainted, and the marks go deeper.

I could be wrong though.
