Strange engine thumpy noise?

Sounds are tough to diagnose from, but at idle, my engine has this odd noise... seems to go away above idle.

Here's a video:

I hear the lifter noise, and maybe a slight exhaust manifold leak, but under that, lower pitch, is a more thumpy sound.

Anyone else's cars make this noise? Vanos? P/S pump? Oil pump? Gremlins?

Nope, i just got used to it. I don't even hear it anymore, though it is probably still there.

Sounds like the dual mass flywheel. They get louder with age.

Try pushing in the clutch and see if the noise changes or disappears. If it does, then there's your answer.

I've heard this sound on two other E90 N51's both ATs, no codes or any weird driving behaviors.

Definitely curious as to what this is though, may not be isolated just to MTs as it's still heard on the automatic.

Is yours a manual transmission? If its an auto then this noise is not the DMF.

If it is a manual, then yeah it's totally normal for the most part and just becomes louder with age as the dual mass flywheel ages.

You can safely ignore it unless the DMF totally fails and if that's the case you should hear much louder, much more concerning clunking noises.
