Don't do it - I tried a BassLink in my E46 and sent it back - it basically doesn't fit in the trunk - in the E93 you would have to mount it right in the middle and fire it against the top when it is down. Besides the fit, it really doesn't sound that good for the money - I ended up mounting a FreeAir Sub in the pass through in my E46 (using the trunk as the bass box) and getting a nice California Amp that I could hide. Basically I did my own version of BSW's setup, but for $250 instead of $700 (http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/pr...-M3-3-Series-/) If you have the Logic 7, the base isn't too bad - they have subs under the front seats and was much better than the previous HK system for Bass.

Sell the BassLink though - not worth keeping!

dont do it get a real sub in there. Please dont do it it'll be a waste. get a small sub about a 10in and flush it in the back. It'll totally be worth it trust me.

Thanks for the tips! Great to hear from people with experience. I've made up my mind not to keep the Basslink for this car. Thanks. I was happy with it though as a cheap, quick, all in one unit that I used in my A4 with the stock stereo, so it did its job. For this new car, it sounds like a different issue.

I should probably wait for the car / listen to the Logic7 stereo again too to see how the bass will be before panicking! LOL!

In the setup you suggested, so I'd use the pass thru hole to mount the sub it sounds like. I assume then you'll lose the ability to use that hole in future? It sounds like it's only useful for golf clubs...

you know my e46 330ci with a 10" (line driven from the two subs in the rear deck) in a port tuned box jl10w0 sounded awesome with harmon kardon.

i have to say that the bmw logic7 is a big POS compared to the e46 stereo. i think its LOGIC7 by PYLE

i've never seen a DSP implementation suck so bad that is sounds better off with all types of music.

really disappointed by the stereo and i think the logic7 is the middle of the line? maybe high-line for usa?

sucks.

JL audio sub. Plenty of options depending on your budget and how much room you are willing to part with. They have great amps also.

Once you go JL, you can't go back. Anyone with W7 experience would say this. I had 12" W7 once in my previous car. After that, every other sub out there sounds weak to me.
Put a 10" W7 in a smallest enclosure allowed for that sub. You will have no trouble feeling the bass whether your top is down or up or gone.
I recommand 10" sub over a 12" sub, unless you are looking for a louder "thump". 10" subs sound much tighter with fast-beat music.

Basslink is pure piece of shit if you know anything about subs and bass.
If you were satisfied with basslink, honestly, you would be impressed by any subs out there.

Well, I went back to the dealer, and played with the Logic7 stereo a bit, and found it has an equalizer. That made a difference. Enough at least that I'm not panicking about lack of bass, and will figure out what to do after I get the car, and have listened to the stereo for a while and fiddled with it.

Thanks for the help guys.

why not upgrade those subs under the seats for that extra thump.

That would be a great idea. Except at the moment, I know nothing about the subs. Could I just do that without messing with the rest of the stock setup? ie simply replace the existing ones with better or more powerful subs and use the exising wires and amp?

Or would it be an additional amp to install and other work?

Meh.

Just do as you said you'd do--stick to the plan: wait until you hear your very own car with your very own Logic 7, tweak it out, see if you like it. If not, then worry about how to fix it to suit your taste.

I liked my bass link in my M3 Convt. It is actually a pretty good setup with its built in crossover, amp, etc.All it requires is power and a speaker signal. And most importantly to me, it doesn't weigh a ton.

well if you decide to upgrade the under the seat subs, here's a clean setup me and my uncle did to my car:

there's also a bunch of other good threads about upgrading the amps/subs, etc

You thought the E46 stereo was good? Or did you think it was good after you put in the JL10?

Not that the Logic7 is great but it was a huge improvement over the HK in my e46.

I dont think its that bad after you play with it for a while. I would listen to it like others said then make your changes.

Sweet writeup dude! Will definitely look it up later. Noob audiophile questions. What do you think of these scenarios?
  1. So if you had just replaced the subs and not used a new amp as well, what would have happened? Not much extra thump? Does the stock amp not have enough juice to get more bass out of better subs?
  2. What if you kept the stock subs, and just added another amp for them? I think I read in your original post someone suggesting it, but can't recall if they said after how it turned out.
