Help random greasy part on the ground!

So I had my car up today (2011 335xi) to change the oil. While it was up (on really sketchy jackstands) I noticed grease/oil on my boot and inside my front driver side rim. I couldn't see any problems with the boot or obvious leaks and unfortunately couldn't really get into it further, car teetering in the air and all. So I pulled the car out after the change and I found some broken white plastic pieces on the ground- any ideas?

I'll bet it's the CV joint boot. It could be torn in one place. With what you describe that's a probable culprit.
