No longer thinking of replacing the E92 with an E90 AWD.
I have 2 years left in my lease. Because of winter weather and the need for my in laws to get into the back seat on a regular basis, I was thinking about replacing the 335i coupe with a 335xi sedan when lease runs out. I love the coupe but it is just not the best for winter driving (335xi coupe was not available when I got my coupe) . Although the last 3 winters have been mild and not much snow here in SE PA. And it is just too hard for my slightly disabled mother in law to get into the back seat. (Father in law MUST ride in the front seat).
But now things have changed! Always had an AWD Mountaineer for snow and winter driving that was my wife's daily driver. Usually left the 335 in the garage in bad winter weather. So I just picked up a new AWD car for my wife to use and put the Mountaineer semi-retirement to be used for runs to Home Depot and other non daily needs. 75k good condition still runs well @ 14 mpg. Just leased a Lexus IS250 AWD for my wife. My daughter has the exact same car including options only her's is silver. My wife has driven her car numerous time and liked it . Comfortable ride, nice amenities, but it is NOT a performance car. 20+ mpg on the first tank full of gas in city driving. Now why did we not get a 328xi? It was more expensive to lease , my wife just liked the Lexus and probably the main reason was the color availability. I have complained many times on this forum about being dissatisfied with the 3 series color availability, especially disliking the Crimson Red. Well let me say that the Matador Red Mica is absolutely stunning! In the sun, WOW! I guess you don't really buy a car just for the colo , but in this case it was HUGE factor. I guess nobody else would actually want a 3 series that came in a color similar to this. |

Alternatively you could have gotten rid of your in-laws. JK... and yes Lexus does have some sharp colors.

My point is that why can't BMW have comparable colors for the 3 series? 2 blacks, 3 silver / grays. One bright Blue and a bright Red that IMHO, does not look greatest on either the E90 or E92 especially when compared to the Imola of the E46 or the Sedona Red metallic of the 1 series. IMHO, both of those colors would look great on the 3 series.

Congrats. Both rides look great. I think if you’re going to spend good money, better get exactly what you want. The right color may be the most critical criteria. The IS is more coupe like than the E90.

I've answerd that question at least 10 times on this forum. Suffice it to say that in my area they coat the roads with ciders in both the winter and summer. I don't think they look that bad on a black car . And no, I'm not taking them off and I don't care who doesn't like them. Just don't like the sides of the car getting shot peened with stones. Not putting on Clear Bra on a leased car.

The only stunning thing in those pics is that gorgeous E92 you have. What kind of wheels are those?

They are Moven BSrs (Breyton Spirit reps). Interesting thing is that they seem to hold the air pressure better than any other wheel I have ever had. Checked the pressure today and 2 of the 4 wheels were 1/2lb low from where I filled them 3 months ago.

The red on the Lexus is actually very stunning in person. Love the Lexus colors and I love the smoky granite mica on my LS460.
BTW, congrats on the cars. But, why do you have mudguards on your e92? Detracts from the sportiness, IMHO. |

I really like the IS250 and the color is great. I had a VW Golf GTI back in the 1980's that was Mica Red and the color was fantastic. It changed hues depending on the light.
Best, Mike. |
