Dashboard and HUD

Does anyone know anything about what the Virtual Cockpit will look like? Is it from the current 5 series? Somewhere I saw mentioned the new HUD with more information, can anyone elaborate?

Is the 335D gone? Is it now the M340D?

I had a Non xDrive 335i Touring and I really didn't like it, too much power, not enough grip, my 335D xDrive is magic.

Well latest spy shots of new Z4 shows full digital cluster so it would make sense that the G20 will get it as well, albeit possibly as an optional extra.

You’d better stick with the old models then as it’s not an option on Gxx models!

I just wish I could have a digital-bar tach on the HUD of my 440i.

The new X5 interior kind of looks similar to what we have seen in the G20 spy shots.

I'm in the " love " the digital dash camp!!!

After Audi had there's the last few years I don't understand why other manufacturers aren't going this same route.

Even Lexus's F Sports with their sliding tachometer was from 2014 and looked really cool the nav being dead center in front of the driver's eyes would be nice!!

It's interesting that the G20's interior seems to match the X5's interior. This leaves the 5 series interior design in a weird place. If it benefits the new 3 series I'm not complaining though.

I've also noticed that BMW has begun using the same shifter/iDrive control layout in all of their new cars (X5, 8 series, Z4). I imagine this is an effort to modularize the interior design so they don't have to implement unique control layouts for each model.

They already use the same shifter for all their cars. They have the non-sport and the sport digital shifter. iDrive controllers are also generally the same across most cars.

The new controllers are just a new design.

To clarify, I meant that they've grouped the shifter/iDrive controls into a single module, with varying buttons based on what options the car has.

I read the new X3/X4 will get an update next model year to make their dash look like the 8 series / z4 / x5 / 3 series . So i'd imagine the 5 series would also get one eventually.

I think all the dashboard content should be carried over to HUD at this point. I don't know why they're still investing on redesigning the dashboard. It's like designing a new CD-Drive for a new laptop. (Or USB-A port). Waste of resources.

Well.... most cars don't have HUD.

I don't even like HUD personally it flickers on F30s. HUD requires a polarized windshield which costs a ton of money to replace if it cracks and isn't a common part, unless they made every single car have HUD which doesnt seem like will happen any time soon.

I used to say the same thing, but that was when the graphics were dog shit. Now they're advanced to the point where old analog dials look like they belong in the last century.

Jet planes offer a glimpse of the future. The new graphics that come with the latest Gulfstream jets look like they're from Star Trek. Actually better than Star Trek. I see car instrumentation going in that direction.

Plus, they can update the look and feel of the instrumentation with a simple upgrade now.

I think the hud is a better place to be putting any info. Info on the dashboard means you have to look away if only briefly. I think once you have had a hud you will know what I am on about.

I think putting maps and detailed info on the dashboard from an ergonomics view is a bad thing but manufacturers are tempted to do so as it looks "cool" .

On an Automatic Only car it doesn't matter anymore. E-brake is fine
Was watching Tesla 3 review on YouTube last night, it's like riding (not driving) a laptop. If that's where BMW is going you won't even have an e-brake in a couple of years
