Just do superficial mods like blacklines, eyelids, carbon fibre splitters/ diffuser/ mirror covers and maybe stereo upgrade. I wouldnt be putting a chip in on a lease car especially if its under warranty and youd need to get ti serviced at the stealership. Id leave the engine alone, maybe check in a K&N filter.

Don't be surprised... MANY people who lease their cars mod them. That's why there are so many parting-out sales lately.

I would suggest superficial mods for a leased car..

I have a lease. Not touching the engine, chip, exhaust, etc. Anything I do to the car will be cosmetic.

I couldn't bring myself to do anything other than minor cosmetic stuff, like LEA69 said.

Something about the fact that I don't actually own it makes me less interested in really customizing it.

you can mod if you want, but put it back to stock before you return the car, and treat the money as 'sunk cost' (ie don't think you can recoup your money by selling the parts at lease end)

personally, i will not be modding my leased vehicle since i'd rather save the money so i can get a M3 next time.

different strokes for different folks, so do whatever makes you happy

I think whether you lease or 'own' it, you still lose out when you mod, after x years. I don't see the difference between modding a lease car and then parting out after 3 years and modding your own car and parting out after 3 years. Most people who mod can't stand to have the same mods on their cars for more than 3 years anyways , and most folks part their cars when they sell it.

+1, i laugh when people say "is stupid to mod a lease car" THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE in modding a leased or finance, or purchase vehicle..

I am on 3 yr lease too . currently have CSL reps, upgraded used zsp suspension, most of the lights have been changed, and a ikon exhaust coming soon..

as long as u return to stock, dealer wont give a damn.. Just dont be cutting up stuff in ur car and u will be fine. (exhaust should be fine, i dont think they will even notice it haha.

Uh yeah, except for the fact that the car isn't really yours when you lease it. You're modding someone else's car at that point. There is clearly a difference.

What about something as simple as BLacklines? Will you get charged at end of lease because its not OEM that came with the car?

There's no difference in how much money you lose at the end of it. Don't forget leasing is a just another form of ownership. Even financed cars are technically someone else's car

Its really up to folks, people get something out of mods. They paid for it, and they live with the hit in $$$ (again irrespective of lease vs own).
