B58 Dinan Sport vs Stage 1

Is the Stage 1 worth the extra $1100? HP and Torque gains seem very similar. Is the warranty the only significant difference then? Are smoothness of shifts, etc., the same? Not looking to change the day to day characteristics of the car.

I had the Sport. I sold it and got the Elite. More HP/TQ, stock-like drive-ability and a warranty. I think it's worth it.

When you say stock-like drivability, would you say that when your car with the tune is in comfort mode you don't notice much difference from when it was stock? That is important to me. I don't want jerky shifts by the AT when I'm driving through downtown.

I have the stage 1 on my M240i. In comfort mode when you are driving normally (like downtown) on the street, you won't even know it is there, except for the fact that the slight turbo lag will be gone at initial throttle application. Shift points and feel remain the same. When you open it up a bit in any mode is when you'll certainly feel the difference, regardless of what mode you're in.

Stage 1 has a smoother power delivery and comes with Dinan warranty.

If this is worth the jump in price to you, then stage 1 is the way to go.

You're saying the tune decreases the turbo lag? That is awesome, thought it would be opposite.

Any chance you could elaborate on this a bit? I'm not the as well educated on tuning as I'd like to be.

I have the stage 1 and I bought it because of the warranty and cooperation with BMW dealerships.

As for how it feels:
In comfort I get a slight hesitation on initial throttle input but after that the car is smooth with notably more power.

In Sport+ no hesitation and instant throttle response. Big difference from stock.

the sport tuner is a boost adder, it simply adds a set amount of boost blindly.

The stage 1 has access to more sensor which gives it more control over power delivery and how to add boost

Best $$$ spent so far... I have no intention at this point to spend coin on serious mods, but wanted to do something to relieve the pain of "did I buy the right car?" which was haunting me for several months. So it was either MPE or Stage 1, the logic is money spent on something you can feel instead of something you can hear is justifiable. Everything that has been mentioned already is very accurate, in comfort mode the slight lag is gone, every other mode the Stage 1 wakes up an already potent engine, I am 100% satisfied.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm assuming that this is what people mean when they talk about how many OBD-II plugs a tune uses (I'm probably confusing some terminology here).

There is noticeably more HP/TQ; however the drive-ability is stock-like, no jerky shifts.

I think that settles it then. Everybody seems to love it, and I'd love a bit more power. Gonna ask my dealer for a quote. Thanks for the help, all.

Let us know when you get it installed and your experience with the tune!

Don't have experience with the Sport but I just had the Elite installed yesterday and I'm happy with the results. Turbo kicks in quicker and harder and the throttle response is noticeably improved.

There's a nice straight highway onramp near me with a good downslope to it. After the tune going WOT in 3rd felt like I was making the jump to hyperspace!

Do you want to fool the car or have the car know exactly what to do when you want it to? That's the difference. I've had the Stage 1 for almost a year and although I've had a few issues, I wouldn't take it out for anything else. Great product, and a great company. They've stepped up with a warranty issue and the car had been running like a champ ever since.

What issues did you run into?
