how does the e93 vert drive compared to the e92 335i?

I am currently looking into the 335i.. just wondering for those that drove either or both cars, how do they compare? is the vert still as fast. I know it weighs more due to the hard top but I think it may be worth it..... thoughts?

thanks

I am in the same boat.

Leaning towards the coupe, though.
For all I have read here, the cab is heavier and its weight distribution
is a little compromised with the hard top in the trunk.

But it surely looks good and must be very fun to drive.

Depends on what You want. I'm not a convertible guy, but I bought an E93 335i because my Wife has always wanted a convertible. You do give up a little performance due to the weight increase but I have no trouble beating my Porsche buddies at the strip or hanging with them in the turns on our occasional mountain runs and Track days! Plus when you put the top up it's as tight as a coupe, no wind noise.

My buddies Porsche Cayman-S w/ exhaust & Intake mods ran a 13 Flat to my 12.77

3,995 pounds w/1/4 tank of gas!

My other buddies Porsche C4S w/headers, exhaust & Chip

Two totally different concepts...(at least in my mind)
Coupe=robust, lightweight with near cornering perfection and balance
Convert=heavier, less rigid, suffer in cornering due to torsion and balance deficit vs the coupe (and a bit of a poser car).

Having said this, I doubt that most drivers notice much of this since both are great.

If all you want is 0-60 and some fun, go for the vert. If you are a curve eating monster, go for the coupe.

i always found the e93 to look a bit "awkward" with its top up for some reason...sure looks good with the top down tho.

Vert = Unbeatable amount of fun while driving with the top down. Not as fast but only few people can tell the difference. With the top up it is as tight and snug as a coupe. A real head-turner with the top down. Looks like an older sister of the pretty girl next door when the top is up.

Coupe = Slightly faster but can you really tell the difference? Your only view to the sky is thru a rectangular hole above you. Looks very pretty, but on a nice day it is the other sister that you wish you can have fun with.

There is no weight difference as in the coupe you drive around with your buddies and in the vert you can get something better that weighs less - like a 100 pound blonde and that pretty much makes up for the difference in the weight!

Seriously, unless your going to drive the car on the track, on the road you get a car that performs as good as the coupe, but has the option of cruising top down too!

I didn't test drive the coupe, but the car felt as solid as my e90 with the top up. I was very surprised at the lack of wind noise. You'd never guess that it's a Cab.

Jumping in and driving the e93 after driving my e92, it is noticeably heaver and through the turns it feels like its kinda being dragged along instead of just point and go. Its still a great car nonetheless but you can definitely feel the added weight.

...and this is all psychological bull*... the so-called added weight is like you have another passenger in an e92... does the passenger really make such a difference? give me a break

Haha, i never said he wouldnt love it. Its a great car, you get the best of both worlds (convertible with a hardtop). But he asked how does it drive and i track my car quite often so i know how it drives very well and the e93 feel significantly heavier.

Way to get defensive Have you checked the weight? Unless you are carrying a 400 pound passenger it is NOT like having an other passenger.

Like i said before, the OP asked how does it compare and i expressed what i felt. If you want to get your panties in a bunch over it then so be it. Hell, my friend drives a modded e93 (Tam@spp) and even he agrees that his car with coils STILL feels noticeably heavier through the corners then the coupe.

hmmm...additional weight is additional weight....period....
if you don't mind and could careless about the additional weight....go for the E93.....

if you're very sensitive about driving performance....get the E92....

Lovin' the e93. Not as fun as my old cars, but it's up there. Nothing like cruising the California backroads with the top down. I frankly like the looks of it better with the top up though. Not to offend anyone, as it is just personal preference, but I think it looks better than the coupe. Performance is good enough, but not the primary reason I bought it. You need to figure out what you want out of the car. Seriously, I get so many compliments it is almost embarrasing to drive the thing. It is funny to catch people staring when you get all Transformer on them with the hardtop vert. A little kid stopped his Mom yesterday and insisted they watch the entire 23 second show - glad they got out of that crosswalk.

its more about the top down experience rather than driving performance....it is a above par peformance...but its still different from the coupe.....

the first time i drove the Z4 with top down....i felt weird that i have so much space on top of my head....

Of course it's not as fast -- it's 400 lbs. heavier. But really, the bottom line is either you want a convertible or you don't. If you don't REALLY want a convertible, then you are just going to look stupid when you're driving around with the top up on a 70 degree day (which I see WAY too much around here).

oh, and for the record, the vert looks better with the top up OR down compared to the coupe.

I have not driven the coupe; however, I am sure it is a little faster and corners better- but who cares unless you race every car on the road or track it every weekend. The experience of the open top is priceless.

Furthermore, it is so damn sexy with the top down. The car looks lower. You can see the sexy coral red leather, navi, and brushed aluminum trimming. Most importantly, others can see the hot guy behind the wheel with the big smile. You also have easier access when you're cleaning the inside or putting in the 3 yr old daughter and 2 month old son.

With the top up, it has a distinctive look compare to the E92 and E90. I must admit that I liked the lines of the E92 more at first, now I really it's a toss up between the two.

If you have the extra $ and contemplating between the coupe & vert, go with the vert or you will regret it. I have no regrets. If you get the coupe, great- it is also a damn sexy car as well.

Moreover, my E93 is much much faster than my old 2006 G35 w/298 hp. I was afraid I was going to be disappointed with the power on the E93 when I traded my C6 convertible vette for it. Surprisingly, I am satisfied with the power from my E93- if I wasn’t I would have already done the Dinan flash.

I drive ALONE

The wife (and no she does not weigh 400lbs) can come along behind in the minivan. j/k

I live in central texas.. there might be 6-8 weeks out of the year when a convert would be ideal. YMMV
