How do I know my dealer actually has a modifiable allocation.

Went to the dealer in February and he said he had a "hidden allocation" and proceeded to build the car and coded it 47, but I don't have a production number. What is the process for how BMW contacts dealership and allows dealership to submit builds?

From what I understand, BMW releases allocations through their internal portal to dealers (Dealerspeed?) near the beginning of every month, and dealers then associate builds in status 047 with production numbers.

I don't think there is such a thing as a hidden allocation. Either the dealer has a production number or they don't.

Thanks for reply. So if he hasn't called me this month then I basically have to wait another month for him to submit, or month after that, etc. So my deal is that I don't want a MY2018 if I won't have the car until say Sept or later.

So I wonder if it matters the CA I spoke to? Do some CAs have more stroke over others? How is managed at the dealer level?

Pretty much so -- you either have an allocation right off the bat when you order one (if the dealer has unused allocations) or you are waiting for the beginning of each month.

No idea what a dealer's internal dynamics would be for limited allocations (M5 allocations are obviously more desirable than 530i ones), but I'd imagine there is no harm asking to speak to the sales manager.

I was on the same boat as you with status 47 with no production number. I was told by my CA that BMW AG filled these order by sequence and I should have priority since I ordered in Feb. I contacted few other dealers and some offers me May production with actual prod #. I then called my CA and ask why, and I made it very clear I will refuse to take delivery if I can't get it by July the latest. My CA called around and got an April allocation from other dealer.

That’s exactly what I am going through. Original CA telling me it’s the Tartufo that is keeping me from getting prod # but new CA says he has a 111 mod alloc he can give me now and that my orig CA is just stalling because the 111s they had were already given away. Sound about right?

Yeah, that sounds about right. You should have a production number even if there is a temporary production halt or component shortage.

If there is a delay, you would just find your production week pushed back when you call up the BMW Genius hotline. For instance, BMW is having production delays with Tanzanite Blue on F80s and people are finding their orders with production numbers being pushed back.

Imagine that. A CA lying about the fact that he doesn't actually have a modifiable allocation at time of order. I thought it was suspicious when he said he had "hidden slot". Like he was bragging he was special. Lesson learned. Judgment day tomorrow.

Why did you stick with him then? I mean he pretty much lied about having a mod alloc 111 status at time of ordering, right, like my orig CA did. Just curious if he had any further excuse or explanation post the poaching expedition.

He didn't say he has allocation 111 when I order, and he was pretty upfront that I was at status 47, but was one of the earlier one in the order bank. He estimated the order will be filled either for April or May production, but he say he cannot guarantee it as status 47 will be filled by Germany. He did mention that most of the allocation to the dealer so far are modifiable HEA allocation, but if there are extra spot Germany will allocate order in the order bank accordingly. He was very prompt in communication so I gave him benefit of the doubt. (I also get around 5-6% off msrp)

I was able to locate a May production from another dealer (this was back in March), so I ask my CA and tell him that I won't take anything later than May production. I was prepared to cancel my order and order a 911 instead. In the end he was able to get an April modifiable allocation from an out of province dealer.

Thanks everyone for the insight. Got my prod# today from the new dealer and told old CA thanks for nothing except wasting my time. His only response was “good luck”. Where’s the douche emoji?

5/22 or somewhere around that. At this point I'm just glad the other guy didn't get the sale.
