2018-1 Navigation Update?

Has anyone received the 2018-1 navigation update yet? There's not much time left for 1st quarter, so I'm wondering when this will start rolling out. This being Texas, there's always new roads being built, and part of the reason we got this car was the OTA updates that come out up to 4 times a year. FWIW, our December 2017 build has 2017-4 maps on it.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has had 2018-1 pushed to them and what region you're in for the OTA update.

I have now done two manual USB download updates. My car - an early example - was delivered with 2017 - 3. I first upgraded to 2017 - 4 and recently 2018 - 1. All went well.

Are the updates truely OTA?
Here in Australia I had to download software onto my Mac which then downloads the updated map data. I upgraded our region map version from 2017-1 to 2017-2.
These only came out in Jan..... but obviously our maps don’t get updated often.

Updates in the U.S. are supposed to be truly OTA since the car comes with a built-in SIM for AT&T LTE access. The car can even be turned off while doing the update, and the update doesn't affect the usability of the infotainment system at all apparently. The cars are supposedly shipped with the full nationwide maps from the factory, but only update your home region OTA each quarter. When I log into BMW Connected on my computer, it shows my home region selected is Texas.

Where do we download these map updates from?

My car shows 2017.4 in IDrive.

I called the Genius Hotline today and they said they have no idea when navigation updates come, as they are usually random. However, they did reiterate that everything happens over the air and there's no way to download them to a USB stick as a customer and update it.

This, of course, applies only the U.S. models I'm assuming since it's the BMW USA Genius Hotline.

Here in the UK you can download 'BMW download Manager' from the Connected Drive area of the BMW website. It is through that app that you are able to download the full map.

I have a copy of the 2018-1 map update I can send you in a PM if you'd like it. The update process was really easy too and you don't need any special codes to enter in iDrive6 either.

My car has 2017-4. I'll take the update file. You just plug in and go to software update on iDrive? It will recognize that it is a map update? It appears in the USA it can only be updated over the air

I have map info 2017-3. Sure could use an update? Nothing has come OTA yet that I could tell.

How did you get the update? When I put my VIN in the BMW software update center, it tells me not valid. All my other connected features work so this is puzzling.

Same thing for my VIN, but my car is still enroute to the dealer so it's probably not active in the system yet.

Direct download link(s)

I got the update links from Cartechnology.co.uk in a thread for the 2018-1 EVO Map update here: https://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=33380. If you don't have an account, the Road Map North America EVO 2018-1.txt file contains the following link below to a Mega cloud server to download 5 .7z zip files.

How to update the BMW EVO Map:
Once all of the files are downloaded, open the first file (Road Map North America EVO 2018-1.7z.001) with WinZip and it will unzip the rest of the downloaded files into one big folder that will contain all of the EVO 2018-1 Map Data. With the files all unzipped (there should be 5 in the folder), drag all 5 files to the root of a newly formatted FAT32 USB 3.0 drive. Pop the jump drive into your car's center USB and start the car. The Navi will recognize the map update and it will ask if you want to update. If your journey is short in between drives, turning the car off is no problem. The update will continue once you start the car again until the update is processed.

Also, you DO NOT need an FSC code so don't buy one or get suckered into doing so. EVO iDrive systems are unlocked. NEXT/PREMIUM systems require an FSC.

Thanks, I'll give this a shot. What's the difference between EVO NEXT and PREMIUM?

Interesting, because the actual software update site is a redirect from the BMWUSA site software updates page.

In connected drive website you can choose auto update in "My services"->"Map update"->"Automatic map update", in that page you can set your region and the map in that region should be automatically updated.

Different head unit for the iDrive system. The 2018 X5, for example, has NEXT.

This thread prompted me to check mine, I purchased in late January and I have 2017-2... Still trying to figure out how to update, couldn't get anything to work OTA.

OTA updates refresh your local region as updates get pushed from the administered server. The entire system database gets updated at the factory or manually at the dealership. OTA is, however, suppose to update from 2017-2 to -3, etc, but my 2018 X3 M40i never did so I've updated it from 2017-3 to 2017-4 to now 2018-1.
