Which model do you think holds better value?
I'm curious about this because i've been seeing a lot of 2007 335i's about 10k below how much they were bought. Maybe it has something to do with turbo i dont know?

Well the 335i comes in sedan as well so you have to specify.
The higher end cars always drop faster in the first year, but down the road a 335 will be worth more as long as there are no long term turbo issues but they will be closer in price. To most buyers, they dont know or care about the difference between a 335 and 328 all they see is BMW. That is why the price premium doesnt hold up as large as it was when the cars are new. While fanatics covet finding a used 335 over the 328 most buyers could care less and 230hp is more then enough for them.

Bought my 06 330i for $26,800 with 24k mi.
Had a sticker of $42,800 1.5 year depreciation = $16,000 Glad someone else took that depreciation hit!

Add Honda Accord to your list!
Among the best should be the Accord EX 4-banger with cloth seats and an AT. If you want to see depreciation, look at SAAB. BMW isn't too bad for a Eurocar.

Actually if you lease. And go by BMW's residual values (which are grossly inflated compared to what the market is really like) the BMW's out perform the hondas and toyotas in terms of residual value on a lease. Before I got my car I went to acura to try and lease a TL and could get a more expensive BMW for a cheaper payment than the TL.
In general the more expensive and probably prone a vehicle is the more it depreciates faster. Figure this a 335i buyer looking used isnt going to want a car with only a 10% loss in its first year since the cost is so insignificant they will buy a new one with 0 miles, so you have a tipping point aka market price on what depreciation must be so that 335i buyer will buy used as opposed to new. |
