Watch guys are often car guys (or vice-versa)...WSJ article

I can tell you unequivocally that I am both a watch and car lover. Have been for as long as I can remember. I've also noticed that there seems to be some crossover as indicated by this article.

Short but interesting read that confirms what many of us probably already know.

Certainly holds true for the majority of my friends. Now if watch service just didn't cost more than a 60k mile car service.

Yup. Watch service ain't bad. Depends on the brand tho. Panerai and Rolex are reasonable considering the intervals.

I had a dumb gold GMT. Each service was between $2-4K through Rolex. My stainless Sinn is, of course, much more reasonable through Roland Murphy. If I did another precious metal watch, I'd stick with the Germans and do an A Lange.

Hmmm. Usually haven't had to pay more than $1500 for Rolex. My Panerai was around $900. But the case was pretty scuffed up.

Thats really pricey, I don't have a Rolex, I'm an Omega guy but a couple friends sport the Rolex brand and their services are 1,200 to 1,600...

Wish I could read the article but I'm not gonna pay.

Anyhow, I've always felt this was the case. The common denominator is that we enjoy mechanical things that are high quality. Just as I lust after wood, leather, and metal in cars, I lust after the metal, diamonds, and precision of a fine watch. A beautiful automobile and beautiful watch are both timeless in design.

I'm sure your Tesla tech nerds are more of the Apple Watch type, whereas traditional car guys enjoy traditional watches like Rolex and Omega.

Mark Sirianni specializes in Rolex overhaul and has a terrific reputation. He does a full overhaul for non chronos for $200.
