i'd place my bet on NO!
why would they even think about that stupid thing when it's the golden egg for them unless they're bumping the base price up by 3000.

Highly unlikely. The percentage of 3 Series with iDrive is very low, and increasing the base price to cover the cost of making it standard would hurt sales dramatically. It would be interesting if iDrive were available as an option without NAV (like a base 5) or with NAV, to see where the division is.

I don't mean to offend anyone who has it...
Yes, I have used it when I was test driving cars. I didn't find it too bad to use. I just find that it's not aesthetically well integrated. I don't like the second hump in the dash. I find that the interior is much cleaner and flows nicely without it... |

Agreed. Honestly, without the second hump, the car has a really dull interior.

Only reason I got I-drive. I love it now that I have it. I never use the nav though.

In a way, one of the bennies of the German vehicles is that you can order options a la carte. You can get a 335 with no leather, no premium, no sport if you want to. That's not possible with the Japanese cars, who either give you everything (and build it into the price), or force you to take an entire package if you want 1 item.
It's not a bad idea, with BMW's slumping sales, to force options on the customers. Forcing everyone to get iDrive will automatically boost the avg selling price by 2 grand, which would look good to the execs in Munich. |

The second hump holds extra capacity of water. Wouldn't it be nice to have some additional water when you're really thirsty?
Me silly.

iDrive is nice to have, although I won't die without it.
It's nice that you can do setup in the i-menu rather than relying on the small trip computer on the speedometer. Plus it shows the iPod song list in a bigger screen, and easier to scroll with the joystick rather than reaching the small knobs looking at the smaller screen. But then again, adding iDrive as standard will give buyers less flexibility. I'd vote leave it as optional so one has the choice to get it or not.
