Any suggestions and pics on where to mount the V1's Stealth Remote? I have the double bubble

I would do the sunglass holder mod and put it inside of that. Actually, you may be able to make it fit without changing out the ashtray.

I'm assuming you mean this: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...light=sunglass
a cool mod.. for glasses, but thats where my meter quarters go.

What's the point of putting the stealth remote in a place that's out of view? Do you just use the audio? I saw the post of the guy that did it and it looks cool but seems to defeat the purpose.

My V1 mount above the mirror on the drivers side looks weird, and it sits on the mirror. Is that where you put yours? Pics?

I have it in the ashtray in my E46, and will do the same when the E92 comes in. It is a tad incovenient when looking, but is great in that once you flap the door closed the unit is completely invisible to cops and thieves. NOTHING will push a cop over the edge of "should I give him a ticket, or not" faster than a lit up christmas tree inside your car at night. If the main unit is up high enough, that, too, is nearly impossible to view from outside the car. (Even as the cop is leaning in and questioning you!) I don't know about you, but I just glance down at the V1, for a split second, when I get a new bogey. (I've had a V1 for 10 years, so maybe it takes some getting used to.) That makes the line-of-sight/privacy tradeoff very simple for me.

I'm going to do the mod; do sunglasses and the display fit at the same time?

The meter change fits nicely in the pocket in the rear end of the pull out bin on the driver's door.

With the lid up it's visible. Then when you park you can put the lid down.

I put mine in my E46 on the center end of the passenger side visor, with a short cable to a jack in the overhead console.

My sunglass compartment conversion is in this thread: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ight=nonsmoker

Has anyone hardwired their V1's yet? I want to do the stealth remote install, but I don't know who to have do it? Any recommendations in the LA area?

Nice work and all but it's really impractical considering its purpose. It needs to be up in the driver's line of sight; anywhere else and it's inefficient at best.

Very nice spot for it I think. I think like with most RDR deterctors, a soon as you hear a tone, your gonna slow down so I don't think trying to look at the instrument and analyze where the cop is is practicle. Your not flying a jet fighter where you have to look at the Radar scope and figure out your closure/BRAA (Bearing, Range, Altitude, Aspect). So where you have it in the ashtray is really neat I think and you can hide it from the crooks! Good job!

How hard was the wiring issue for you?

I completely disagree. The only position where it's really in your line of sight is on the dash, which obviously defeats the purpose of stealth. I really don't notice any difference in effectiveness coming from the standard install next to the rearview mirror. You react to the sound, instead of looking up to see where the arrows are pointing I now look down (if at all).

Unless you want to drop some serious money to have this type of fabrication done: http://www.toyguy.o-f.com/i/v1_img4.jpg , I think it's the best option.

Thanks. You're spot on, if the detector erupts you're going to slow down regardless of where the arrows are pointing. I had to have the plastic fabricated (to create the change reservoir), so I just had them wire it at the shop. I believe there are a few DIYs out there on e90post for the ashtray install.

BTW, there a kit to integrate the V1 into the Idrive. I remember seeing it a while ago, but it was around $500-$600.

That is the first I've heard of one... that would be cool, however you might be thinking of a product called StealthOne. Sadly (at least from my searching) seems to only have been for older models, and won't help us any (not sold any longer either).

Hi, I would like to get some ideas about installing the Beltronics STi, where they are still illegal.

I had this. The company is no longer in business AFAIK. Unfortunately, it was mostly gimmick. It worked, but turning your eyes to look at the nav display was no different than turning your eyes to look at the V1 remote. I feel the best place for the remote would be in a HUD so that the arrows, bogey counter, signal strength and band ID are right in front of you while you're looking ahead.

Don't know too much about it, but I would try to make sure it is hidden as much as possible, otherwise you're defeating the purpose of its "stealth" design. I'd try high on the front windshield by the RVM first.

I recall that some of the E46 owners had hidden their V1 in the black plastic "hump" (supposed to be for the alarm or something I think) that was on the rear window shelf. I don't think the E9x has that. But you could try mounting it in the back window, also up as high as you can get it. I don't know if the window suction cups would work, or you may be able to rig up some sort of bracket that mounts between the roof and roof liner.

I don't have a link but a very reputable BMW electronics supplier we all know is working on one, too. Not sure on the ETA either, but I trust them to deliver this and a few other cool products.
