Undecided On 08 or 09 335i

Hey back again with yet another question.

SO I really want to get a 335i
In fact I was about to pull the trigger on one beginning of May, and a week later while looking for the right car/color/options/price fucking residuals went to shit.
They're gonna be crap until june 30th. I don't know what will happen come july 1st. Perhaps bmw is gonna subsidize the MF's like crazy and make them reasonable to lease (no fucking way I'm paying $750 a month for a 46k car).

So say we arrive at said scenario come July 1st. Second issue comes into play. Do I get an 08 or wait a few months and get the 09 (possibly even EuroDelivery one).

I've read a few websites claiming it will be unveiled at the Paris Autoshow which is in the end of September. I also remember reading that it was going to happen in Germany (i believe hannover auto show) in August. Does anyone have the heads up as to when it will be publicly revealed?

Also if they debut it in Sept, Can I have already placed an order for one, and be in Munich to pick her up (say a few days or a week after the unveiling?)
Now the third issue. When will it realistically be the soonest that detailed (uncovered) photos of the exterior and interior begin making their way onto the internet? I mean it would seem illogical to place an order on a car that you haven't even seen or judged whether the improvements upon it justify extending the wait.

pls rain in with any commentary, data, etc.

I'm guessing your are talking about the e90 sedan??? That is the one that is getting face lifted this fall. The e92 will be next fall.

If you are leasing then get an 08. You should be able to get much better lease rates the closer they get to releasing the 09's.

If you really want an 09 then you should be able to order it next month or at least reserve a production slot. You won't have all options or pricing but that can be changed when that stuff becomes available.

Mt E90 is to be replaced soon, and I am hanging out for the update. I don't want to be driving around seeing those udpated cars, wishing it was me... just my view, I am a sucker for the latest and greatest.

As for ED shortly after release, it would depend on getting into the production schedule... hope you know people in high places

Does anyone have a guess of how much MSRP will go up for 2009 model?

It may not be worth paying a 1000 bucks more for LED tail lights

I'd expect a not so insignificant price increase. I have no scientific expertise or inside knowledge to back that up - but the dollar is so bad, that I've got to imagine companies like BMW will raise prices significantly in 2009.

That said, think about what the new model gets you. Are you in love with the new front end? The grille is better, the hood might be worse. Do you need different taillamps? Will you get iDrive/nav, and will you want the updated system - which may be included, but may not?

Personally, the only sticking point for me was the grille. The moustache is weird looking. But I realized I didn't want to wait another 6 months and have to pay an unknown amount more than I already am for some interesting but not massive changes.

I've been looking at getting the E90 for 2008 but I decided waiting a bit longer is worth it (I actually like the new look - looks like a new bumper, grill, and tail lights). So as soon as the 2009 E90 is out, I'm planning on ordering mine.

As for pricing, I suspect what BMW North America's going to do is increase the price of the E90 in the US and decrease it in Canada. The price of cars here are still quite a bit more than the US (i.e. $10,000 more) and so we're getting cash-back incentives if the car is paid off in cash ($4000 back). I think Canadians will see a new MSRP in the 2009 line given the difference in US and Canadian pricing right now with the 3 series and comparing it with a new series like the 1.

In terms of when it should arrive, the dealership has told me that in September I should be able to order. My friends who own BMW's bought theirs as soon as new models were available which was around September as well. That means if you order in Sept, you'll take posession in October.

You can always just wait until September. If you don't like what you see with the 2009 model, you can always get a 2008 that's not sold and on the lot. Given the American economy right now, it might be even easier to bargain for a deal for a car on the lot and instead of financing, pay it off with a bank loan.

I would honestly wait. The new E90 facelift is suppose to be getting a huge update. New front (grill + hood), new headlights (sort of, BMW is using the E92-like angel eyes, and there is no amber in the headlights anymore!), the new iDrive (which is suppose to have A LOT of new settings), and the DCT transmission. Check this link out, its pretty much all the updates on the new E90.

As it was stated above though if you don't like the looks or your not going to order yours with iDrive/DCT, then why wait?

Edit: The new 335D is also supposed to be launched in 2009 as part of the LCI (I think), if you'd consider a diesel version.

im hoping to get a lease on a leftover 08 in september. my leas for my current e90 is up in december but i think my dealer will let me swap it out early. I beleive or should i say, hopefull beleive that the lease rates should be good on the e90 right before the facelifted model comes out. I remember thats how a family member got a crazy good deal on a 5-serires.

BMWFS recently got a beating on their lease earning due to their overinflated residual value. I doubt that residual is going to come down anytime soon. If anything, they will go higher. Having said that I would still wait for the facelift because I'd hate to be driving an outdated model in just a few month.

What about the prices and shit, will I be able to get a 500 over invoice deal on a 09 sedan. Or are dealerships going to be trying to juice the last ounce of profit out of them? I'm sure if there are a lot of 08 335's left over, BMW will subsidize the MF to some extent to clear remaining inventory. However I'm not really looking at the purchase as purely a $$$ decision. I do love the current e90's but we have 2 of em in the family already, I thought perhaps getting an 09 would be a nice change in the driveway.

Also I'm most likely going to get one without Idrive, just sports, CA, heated Seats, auto, and possibly premium (if they add some more value to the package).

I'm really impatient about getting a look at the ext, and int of the 09's so that I can make up my mind.

What I'm not understanding is that finance rates are more favorable today than they were in 10/06 when I purchased, but from what I read on the forum, lease rates are unfavorable.

The economy is poor and cars aren't selling, one would think that that means it is cheaper to buy or lease today. If it were me, I would not make up for lost profits by paying more for a lease. I hate that, a co. is doing poorly, so they try to pass it on to the buyer. The marketing dept. can argue all they want, lease rates do not follow the economy nor the Fed, prime, etc. But as a consumer, I'd be looking to spend the least money possible. And when the demand is down and there's an oversupply, I expect to pay less, not more. my .02

How is that a potential lessee's problem? Using common sense, I say to them no deal, I don't pay more when finance rates have continually fallen over the last 1 1/2 years. Seriously, if it were me, I'd either buy, or not get the car. I would not just say shucks, that's ok, I'll pay a higher lease rate.

If you are not in a hurry I'd say certainly wait for the LCI. There could be quite a few significant updates to help it compete against the new Audi A4.

Pricing wise it's hard to know. BMW sales is sagging so price increase might hurt sales, despite the falling dollar.

If you after the best value, then '08 is the way to go. The closer it's to the MY change, the better deal you can score. If you after the latest and greatest, just wait for '09. The LCI has to bring some significant changes to compete with all new 09 Audi A4 and MB C series. Still, I would wait a while until the dust settles with the new model, so I could have a better deal, having in mind slow economy.
