E91 Touring - loadspace rattles and creaks
Does anyone else experience rattles and creaks from the loadspace area? It seems to emminate from the plastic trim around the windows, or from the roller blind cover, but despite having tried to work out how the plastic is secured, have so far been unable.
Anyone else found the trick to curing the noise? Thanks |

There is a nasty rattle coming from the back of mine which I am unable to track down. It is going in for a service soon and I mentioned it, to which the dealer immediately said that if the problem relates to adjustment of the tailgate this isn't covered by warranty.
A bit of a clue methinks as to what must happen to a lot of E91's. |

If they suggest that an adjustment isn't covered by the "New car warranty" then request them to get BMW UK to put that in writing.
I see no reason that it shouldn't be covered under its terms and conditions. |

If it is a plstic on plastic type of creaking then it may be the trim around the rear seatbelt feed. Aparently a well known problem with the E91 according to my dealer, but one that still took three visits to properly cure.
Now that they have done you can lean on this peice of trim and not hear any creaking noises, at first it was creaking like crazy.

thats the piece, as well as the window trim behind it. Can't work our how to remove it though to put anti rattle tape / carbaflo in there. Seems to be secured from underneath.
Anyone got a cutaway drawing of the area? Realoem isnt detailed enough. Thanks |

I'm afraid I couldn't figure out how to get it completely out either, so I handed it over to the dealer to sort (three times) Given enough prodding they managed to sort it in the end. First time they added anti-rattle tape, replaced the boot handle and the roll cover and took two days about it. Second time they put anti-rattle tape on the trim pieces I'vce mentioned (where did the first stuff go?) and this improved, but didn't cure it. Then the last time it was appararently minor adjustements and more tape.
The front is clipped through a piece of plastic that you can see if you squash down the seat itself (one was broken on delivery), but the back is impossible to fathom out from RealOEM.

Yep - the missus' car seemed to creak and rattle back there, but there is usually so much crap in the back of the car, I am not sure if it is the actual car or the crap.
I thought that maybe it was to do with the removable roller cover or partition net but not sure.

I know what you mean.
I took all the trim and covers out that I could (roll cover, first aid cover trim, battery cover trim, removable floor section etc, etc) and went for a drive with someone in the back to track it down. Then took it to the dealer and got a tech to come out and listen... who had heard it and admitted that it was terrible before I'd even got out of carpark! According to him both the trim pieces around the seatbelt feed and the trim around the rear window has caused them problems in the past. I've still got a very slight noise every now and then, but it sounds more like the boot catch of something and dosen't happen all that often.. so it can wait a bit to get worse of for when the car does need to go in.

Hmm I have this as well. May have to book it in to sort. First Company Lease car I have had so put it off due to not knowing how warranty issues work on CC's.

Mine's not terrible but I have the occasional buzz from the plastic by where the seatbelt comes out on one side and less frequent louder noise that I think is one half of the split rear seat moving around.

Have now worked out how they are removed. Lots of plastic clips, no screws or the like, so need to get a trim puller underneath and lever up all around the outside, then push the trim puller in further. Once I have then placed anti-rattle felt tape around all the clips the noises are gone...
Buzz and creak free at last |

Update on my rattle - the dealer has identified it as the seatbelt thingy, and a new part is on order.
We'll see if this fixes it, or if they do something dumb like only replace one of them when both are gone etc. |

Well... after a few days of quiet a new one appeared.
More of a meatallic sounding click that is worse when you have the rear wiper going and pretty much goes away if you wedge a sponge between the glass and the rear trim (until the sponge compresses). Diagnosis today is that the rear hatch trim needs replacing... and is on back order. So I'll let you know how it goes. The car is a great drive, but build quality does seem to have taken a tumble from the E46.

My noise went away for about a week after BMW replaced the seat belt things, then came back. However, as the car is going in a couple of weeks I no longer care

Spookily the larger rattle does seem better now. They had to re-secure the rear numberplate as one side of the adhesive had come away (apparently they are getting at least one a week with this problem). How the hell a sponge to load up the glass latch could change this if that is what it was I don't know. More likely is now that is fixed you can actually hear the plastic trim rattle from the back.
Hopefully next week for the trim stuff, but at least it's now sub-stereo volume!

Mine is occasionally very squeeky - taken it to the dealers but no avail so far after they had it for 2 days.
Sounds like it is exactly the same area as the stories above. What dealer fixed yours, so I can quote them? |

I get the same emanating from the left rear only.
I kind of thought it may be the warning triangle moving around though. May investigate further. |

Speak to your person in your company who interfaces with said lease company. If they don't want to know tell your personnel dept to talk to them.
