HPFP Replaced on Recall - No More "Bucking"

I just had my 335 HPFP replaced on recall. The "bucking bronco" behavior when cold (that the dealer denied was ever a problem) mysteriously went away after the new pump was installed - go figure.

I'm confused, there is a recall? or you guys are having them replaced due to a problem.

I believe they just replace your HPFP the next time you bring your car in for service. For certain engines of course. Someone posted the service bulletin here.

Mine was due for service, but when I got the email appointment confirmation, it said Replace HPFP - Recall.

It is an early 2007 model year E92-335.

Yes, there is a recall now on the HPFPs. They did mine last week when I went in for the 1st (scheduled) service at 18K.

I think you have to request them to check it out by complaining about your car's symptoms. Mine just started surging RPMs at cold start up two days before my service appointment.

My service adviser claims the fuel additives used in the US causes the seals to break down prematurely. The new and the refurbished pumps, which they use on the recalls, supposedly have reformulated seals.

It is not a recall. It is a service campaign. Mine is not involved and is an 07. And for what's it worth, the new pumps are still failing. My dealer just had a bad HPFP on an 08 with 350 miles on it.

You probably know more than I do but...
My service adviser said "recall".
My paperwork said "recall".

About 1,000 miles with the new pump. So far - so good.

I thought they determined that pre-March 07's had the bad fuel pumps? Guess that blows a hole in that theory.

That's interesting. My exhibits the "bucking bronco" behavior but only when the engine is cold or after just being started up and taking off. It is not a consistent problem. I haven't mentioned it to the dealer just yet. Does anyone know if this indicative of a failing fuel pump? It starts up just fine and does not exhibit any other symptoms. My 335i, 6MT is an August '07 build. I know I can drive a stick well and sometimes when this "bucking bronco" behavior happens it makes me feel like a rookie. Putting in the Stage 2 Dinan doesn't appear to have an impact as I still get it once in a while. Anyone else experience this? Does anyone have a service bulletin they can post?

Hope this problem is solved soon. I am taking delivery in August. I am stationed in Germany but the German BMW dealers like to give us Americans a hard time. Buying the car from its origin country we dont get the same warranty until the car is in the states. So hopefully if i have any problem it will be taken care of. About the only good side is getting a 335i $6000 cheaper then what its sold for in the states and not having to pay any taxes on it.
