Car keeps over heating after repairs!

I need some help guys, i changed the water pump tstat and all and then my car still over heated (i didnt drive it about a month cause of weather) 3 weeks ago it over heated took it back to my mechanic he said water pumps still good its the radiator. Picked up my car today and drove about 12 miles and reached my neighborhood when the yellow engine temp light came on i pulled over turned it off for a couple mins then back on. 10 mins driving comes back on and then goes away after couple of seconds. Could this be a sensor issue? Or has anyone had an experience like this before?

Can you explain more? I'm waiting on a new water pump & t-stay to install cause of similar issues as OP, but I also noticed no heat blowing through the vents the day I got all the codes & overheated.

Air is a poor carrier of heat. If there is an airlock, you won't get coolant to your heater core and other areas. You rarely get air into a system that has been running properly for a while. It is usually immediately after a repair to the cooling system.

But a dead coolant pump will also cause a similar symptom.

Mechanic replaced the fan and said it ran for about 20 seconds and then stopped and smoked...theyre saying its an electric problem causing the fan to stop working...going to be an expensive bill

bmw's are no special as far as how the engine is cooled with coolant. When you introduce air in the system. The coolant does not actually flow well. Part of the engine gets very hot and some parts are cooler because coolant is not circulating everywhere how it should. This is a VERY bad scenario and cylinder heads can be ruined quick this way. When you have no hot air shut engine immediately. Generally bleeding and tapping coolant lines is enough to clear air.

Car should not be started after any coolant refill before doing bleeding twice at least.
