Achates Power - opposed piston engine

http://achatespower.com/our-formula/opposed-piston/

This is a reintroduction of an old idea called an opposed piston engine, which completely replaces the cylinder head and valvetrain by using a pair of pistons moving in opposition within the same cylinder.

http://achatespower.com/wp-content/u...8_API_2017.pdf

Here is a report on their 2.7L inline 3 (6 opposed pistons) that generates 270kw (360hp) and 650nm (480ft/lb) torque, with 50% greater fuel efficiency.

Who is going to engine swap this thing? Lol.

It's not exactly "on topic", but I thought some of you might find it interesting.

Thanks for posting. The only problem with developing state of the art of gasoline/diesel engines is World governments have essentially banned the use of hydrocarbon fuels for future power generation, which make acceptance of new more efficient engine architectures (or evolution of old ones) not worthy of the investment.

Everyone thinks electric cars are going to save the planet...

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
