Setting up for the track...

I'm about 600 miles into the break-in and can't wait to get this out on the HPDE track.

Part of the fun has been researching what I need(want) to do to the car for some fun track days. Here's my list so far. Add/Change opinions welcome!

For context, I had been leasing an F80 M3 and had 3 great track seasons with it, but since it was a lease I kept it bone stock. Definitely familiar with the brake pad deposits on the rotors!!

Bought the Pagid RS29s last week.

The Dinan Sport tuner would be not for track use, just for street.

Good list. Altho, the Dinan Sport tuner will give you limp mode on track. You’ll find some good threads discussing it.

Have fun.

EDIT: I reread your street only comment. No issues there.

I’m getting prepped too. I’m just going with pagids, tow straps and a helmet for starters.

But I haven’t found any tow straps I like yet, as $100 seems steep for a strap and a fastener.

Most HPDE events require at least one hook; you can use your tow hook sitting in your trunk. I'd skip the strap and most of them look cheap af.

Seems like a great list! I'm a fan of the RS29 in regard to brake modulation, pad wear, and fade resistance. They don't have the highest amount of initial bite, but that suits my driving style quite nicely. I'm running these pads currently with SRF as well.

All the other choices you made are quite sound—have fun out there! Which track(s) are you going to be running?

Thanks! Primarily running at Pacific Raceways here in the Seattle area. Sometimes we do The Ridge in Shelton. I'd like to get down to Portland and try PIR this year as well.

Rear sway replace?

I have a bit of steady-state understeer in my M2 after installing slightly wider P4S tires (268/285) on stock rims. Previously, it was slip and slide power-oversteer fun. But with the wider P4S's in the rear, the front tends to run at a much greater slip angle than the rear. And the power can be easily put down.

Picked up a Dinan rear bar that should allow a slight spring rate increase in the rear that should allow tuning this out (hopefully to full neutral where both front and rears slip at similar angles in steady-state).

However... there's a local mechanic down the street from where I work, and he indicated the BMW manual calls for dropping the rear sub frame to install this(!). 8 hours. I figured it would be an easy job that wouldn't cost a lot to keep me off my garage floor.

So... anyone have experience with replacing the rear sway? And does the sub frame really need to be unbolted/realigned??

I would dump the exhaust mod, there is minimal performance benefit if any at all and they are overpriced in my opinion, I would take a small chunk of that 2,500 and do a intercooler upgrade.

Dinan's instructions for the sway bar leaves a lot to be desired. I would call them and ask for some specific information. Seems off to require the entire subframe to be dropped but I suppose it's possible.

I'd suggest you consider bundling phase 2 with phase 1

Given the cost of street (or track) tires in these sizes, camber plates can pay for themselves very quickly. Depending on the driver, even over the life of the first set in one weekend!

I've seen some people destroy the outer edges of front tires over the course of a single event.

I put plates on mine before the first track weekend a year ago & set them to -2.6 with zero toe. I have done three 3-day track events, and drive my car on the street.

I've got 11Kmiles on the original tires, and they're not done yet. IMHO, best $500 mod to date

I think you're right.
Will grab camber plates before the first track day on May 11th. Thinking of going with Vorschlag instead based on some other threads I found here, then my service advisor tells me I should look into Turner.

Time for more research!

Watching some of your vids reminded me of the good ol days when I would get off work early and hit PR in the afternoon to get my fix.

The Pugetsound chapter back then usually organized a DE day with the Golden Gate Chapter and run it at Thunderhill in the summer . Highly recommended event if you can make it.
