Weird whining noise

I have a weird whining noise coming from my Power Steering but there is no leak and the steering appears to be working just fine.

When I accelerate the whining gets louder, I went by a local shop and the first thing the Mechanic said was "sounds like the Power Steering to me" so I popped the hood and he fiddled around a bit after doing his due diligence to check the Power Steering Reservoir (which I had already done and ensured that it wasn't empty/properly filled).

He had me turn the steering wheel from left to right but neither of us saw any leaks and he said "that's strange" and he told me to bring it back so he could check it out.

I was just wondering if anyone may have had this happen to their car or have any idea(s) as to what it could be if it isn't the Power Steering??

Could it be the alternator? I believe it is right next to it and they normally whine when they start to go bad.

I'm not sure, I have no indication that my alternator is a problem because everything appears to be working fine.

What happens when you raise the revs while stationary? (P/N/neutral if manual)
Just trying to clarify your problem
