power steering and RPM question
i noticed that my 430i loaner doesn't increase the rpm when i am in reverse and have the steering wheel to full lock (when backing out). however, on my e90 335i, the rpm jumps high enough to accelerate the car slightly (backing up and experiencing the car wanting to jolt backward kind of feeling with foot slightly on the brakes). it's annoying. was wondering if something is wrong with my pump or rack, or its in need of a proper bleeding procedure? i've done a "drain and fill" about three times using the turkey baster method into the ps reservoir and that was it. was wondering if you guys experience the same...thanks in advance!

I have the same "surging" problem. Seems to be pretty common in our cars. I've sadly just learned to live with it. Maybe something will come of this thread though. Following for a chance at a fix.

It's not because it's an electric assisted rack vs. hydraulic. It's a known and common issue on E-series N55 cars. My 2008 N54 335i did not experience this phenomena nor did my 2010 N54 E60 535i Xdrive, both of which used hydraulic racks. My 2011 335i has this issue along with startup idle surging. My dealer acts like they don't notice it/can't duplicate it and therefore will not even attempt to diagnose it. Some people have had success updating their DME at the dealer to get rid of both issues.

This is one of the many reasons BMW switched to electric steering. A fix for this would be raising the idle RPM, but MHD does not allow us to do that yet.

No, it was exactly the same. When I flashed the cold start noise reduction, it actually got worse. Below 40 degrees with the cold start noise reduction, if you turn the wheel within 15-20 seconds of starting the car it will try to die.
I have normal coldstart on now, as I feel like the car runs far better after the 15-20 seconds of higher RPM. The steering thing doesn't bother me, as I never has to turn the wheel when the car is stationary.
