So many tune options, how did you guys decide??

Just like the topic says, there are so many tunes how does one decide which one to go with?

My car when I bought it came with a catless dp, FMIC, charge pipes, and CAI, and Corsa exhaust.

I've been searching all weekend and finding so many options, and just curious what made you guys go with the tunes you went with?

I live here on the border of Henderson, NV and only have access to 91 octane.

If you want to continuously tinker with your tune then, go with a JB4. If you want to set it and forget it (for the most part) I would go with an MHD map. MHD OTS maps are much smoother for DD IMO.

There really isn't a ton of options. I have had the JB4, Cobb, and MHD. MHD in my opinion is the best option. As Toome mentioned you will always be playing with settings on your JB4. If you are thinking about the JB4 just Google piggyback tune vs flash tune.

So I was on Extreme Powerhouse website and clicked on their tune page, and I see things like the Active Autowerke Flash which is almost $1k, and then they have one with no ECU removal. There there is aFe, and BMS, and Bootmod3, and Burger...etc

So I'm just a bit lost here. lol

Look up MHD like the others said. It's constantly being updated and has a live community. If you already have an andriod device, then it is only $250 or so.

Thanks man I really appreciate it. I checked their website out and didn't see how much it cost and was like wtf??

Is it something that someone who really doesn't have a ton of experience with tuning cars, and pretty much uses it for a daily driver and install pretty safely?? ha ha ha ha

Yes, as long as you can work an Andriod tablet you should have no problem figuring everything out. Plus it is very safe and almost impossible to mess up.

The mainstream tune options are Cobb, MHD, Proceed, and JB4. There are other people that offer tuning and flashes through MHD and Cobb but the tuning hardware is the same. Cobb and Proceed are pretty much dead on this platform. Bootmod is for F series I don't know if they are planning on working with E series.

You were probably looking at the wrong tunes.
F chassis tunes are different than E chassis.

Our most popular option for your car is the JB4.
No need to tinker with it, it already comes with very aggressive off the shelf map.

AVOID JB4 AS A STAND-ALONE ‘TUNE’ LIKE THE PLAGUE

BEF for high hp application is debatable but never run a piggyback on its own if you want a safe tune.

Tens of thousands of users are running JB4 as a standalone across all BMW turbo platforms.

It has been proven without a doubt that the JB4 is safe.

The JB4 is something that can be sold by vendors and MHD is not. It has its perks but I am very happy to no longer have it on my car.

^ Agreed. My car is much smoother even with just an OTS flash than it ever was with the JB4. Inb4 another JB4 vs. MHD debate.

Where else would you use a secondary computer (JB4) to falsify information to another computer (your car's DME) in an effort to get a desired result out of the main computer? Common sense says you should just use the computer you already have (DME) and reconfigure it for the desired results.

I think the JB4 has a place as a boost controller, injector controller, meth controller, nitrous controller etc., but for 95% of us just a reflash provides the most reliable and repeatable results.

As mentioned, JB4 and MHD are realistically the only two viable products left on the market for E90-generation cars. No one makes money off MHD except MHD and anyone that offers custom tuning on MHD, therefore you'll see a lot more push from resellers for JB4.

I really appreciate all the great information here and everyone's time posting. Sounds like MHD is the tune for me and what I will purchase.

No one is denying MHD being a good option.
But to state JB4 is not safe is laughable (not you)

On top of the features you posted for the Jb4, it also adds boost by gear (very important feature for real life driving) , gauge hijacking and failsafes to protect your engine in case anything goes wrong (flash tune do not provide failsafes).

I have always used stacking on my N54 ( Flash + jB4), it will give you the best of both worlds.

This video helps explain the importance of stacking
