Help with my General Exclaims....
Hey guys, I wanted to solicit you guys for your opinion on something the dealer told me today.....I discovered a small pin hole leek in one of my rear tires so I took it to the dealer to have it patched. The patch went fine but when they were done they came out and told me that my rear tires are just about done and need to be replaced very soon. How can this be? They only have about 5000 miles on them and I drive hard but not that hard. I hardly ever turn of the DTC or DSC. They still look pretty good to me but I am not a professional so maybe there are different standards when it comes to UHPs? What do you guys think?.........Ill post picts in a few hours so you can see.

Weird. I don't know WTF to say about that... It will be interesting to see the pics, although it sounds like they are fine!

good thing winter is over. I am expecting my Yokohamas to go 7500-10000 miles. Probably wishful thinking.

What type of tires are they? If they are a street tire (even a high performance tire) then only 5K miles is pretty lousy but not unheard of. A buddy of mine has only about 7K miles on his 996 Carrera and his Pilot Sports in the rear are about done, and he hardly ever drives the thing and I don't think he's terribly aggressive when he does.
What types of inflations have you been running? I ran through a set of rear snow tires pretty quickly (can't remember exactly how many miles I had on them) and I think it was because I was running pretty high inflations. Definitely post pics when you get a chance -- it will be interesting to see if they really are down to the wear bars yet. |

I saw his tires first hand, and they are definitely worn. They are getting very close (~1-2mm) to the wear bars. Like was said above, its not unheard of for UHPs to wear out that quickly.

Any kind of track event, CCC, autox will accelerate wear. I notice that my 335i does wear the rears significantly faster than my 330 did.
