Time for an intake?

I've done the basic bolt-on engine mods on my 2011 335i (catless downpipe, FMIC, MHD tube, chargepipe, catback exhaust) and now am wondering what if anything I can do next. On a stock car, I wouldn't bother with an intake but since I do have all these mods I wonder if an intake is the right next step to gain performance and/or decrease load on the turbo - or will the benefits still be undetectable? I would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Time for suspension mods! An M3 control arm kit and new hardware is about the same price, or cheaper, than an intake.

Coilovers, an LSD, M3 control arms, and a ton of other stuff are already on order!

So I guess even with these mods the stock intake is generally considered sufficient?

intake is mostly for sound. you won't notice much in terms of performance. maybe if you have a dirty/bad air filter a new intake would help

Get a nice new drop in panel filter and spend the money elsewhere.

LSD and turbo upgrade. Intake is mostly for sound. DV+, Pure stage 2, high boost, and intake sound amazing though.

+1 Intake does nearly nothing for our cars. I actually hated the sound, because it covered the sound of the turbo spool.

Oh no! I love hearing the turbo. So what do you hear with the intake? Just the whooooosh of air being sucked? People seem to be pretty enthusiastic about the sound but I have to give up the turbo whistle? ugh....

Yes, if it's just sound, then there are probably quite a few things that come first...

At least for the BMS CAI. It's is a very significant loud WHOOSH. You can hear the turbo spool from the rear end, but from the driver's perspective, I lost about 80% of the sound.

With the DV+ and the PS2 I get that supra flutter noise when I let off. You start to hear it around 12 psi and it gets louder with more boost. If I want to be "That guy" I break necks while driving around in the city.

A little off topic, I'm just learning about the DVs. Is it something to consider on a stock turbo with a tune or mainly for upgraded turbos? Is the sound a big part of the motivation for the DVs?

They do not function properly at higher boost levels and I believe can leak. If you're maxing out the stock unit with no plans to upgrade the turbo you should consider it. If not, I would leave it alone.
