Intake Recommendations?

Hey guys, I'm on the market for an intake and am split between purchasing the BMS Billet Intake and the Agency Power short ram intake for my 2017 B58 M240i. I was wondering if anyone has either product and can offer some feedback! To be honest I'm more interested in a really nice sound than anything else. I had the N55 BMS short ram intake on my old M235i and I loved it, but the newer B58 M240's have just the billet cone from BMS whereas Agency Power has a full short ram. I really don't want to buy the BMS intake and it ends up being quiet, but I do prefer all burger products as they are well trusted. Any recommendations/vids/tips? Thanks.

The factory intake has a built in air cooler. So, unless the new intake has the ability to cool the air from the turbo you’ll be loosing power.

Agency Power is much louder than the BMS but people do have some issues fitting it in the engine bay or have issues with the way it was made. I personally had no issues with it or install and it sounds amazing.

Interesting theory, do you have any dyno to prove it?

Here is a test done on the N54 (turbo BMW) with dyno graphs

Repost from 2012:

So for this round of testing we used our 135i which happens to be 100% stock at the moment aside from the JB4 using 91 octane + NOS octane booster (~93 octane). I've been testing map 2 with a default CPS offset lately so kept that all the same between both tests.

The two sets of tests were performed within 20 minutes of each other under identical conditions. First I did a 40-110mph sprint (on a private track) to evaluate the intake temperature increases throughout the run. Secondly an 8 minute (limit of JB4 logs) idle test simply logging the car with the hood down and AC on to monitor intake temperatures at rest.

According to "hot air" conspiracy theorists the dual cone intake should result in higher intake temperatures during the wide open throttle run, no power gains, and heat up dramatically sitting at idle soaking up all that engine heat.

First up: Stock intake system

Next up: BMS Dual Cone Intake

Results:

I hate to say it again but the results were exactly as expected. The DCI did not produce higher air intake temperatures at wide open throttle, did not heat soak more sitting at a standstill for 8 minutes, and all around felt faster. I should also add it's certainly possible modifying your OEM airbox with an extra filter might offer minimal gains over a dual cone intake assuming you don't mind up cutting up your factory airbox but don't expect much. We've tested this as well with no significant performance gain over a DCI in 40-120mph VBOX times. You have a lot of options for intakes but three+ years later the tried and true DCI is still the intake of choice for those of us who are serious about performance...

That’s an N55 engine and not the B58.

The intake has a built in intercoler. That’s why there’s no separate intercooker.

Its an N54 not N55 and i stated that in the first sentence of my post.
It still applies, unless you have data showing otherwise

Thanks Mike! I actually already ordered the Agency Power intake with you (and just emailed you before checking this response lol). The BMS would definitely be quieter I heard it on a B58 440i a few days ago.

Some customer want very aggressive sound (Agency Power), others want a mild increase over stock (Burger Tuning). We are happy to offer both.

Thank you for your order!!!
