PSA: Check the oil level in your transfer case.

My wife recently bought a 2009 328i xDrive. I've been bringing the maintenance up to snuff and finally got around to changing the transfer case oil. In addition to being dirty, there were only about 12 ounces of oil in there. I don't see any leaks, so I don't know where the oil went. Even though it's a bit of a pain to check the level, it's well worth the time/effort if it saves a really expensive part from being ruined.

The figure I've seen is something like .55 liters, or about 18.6 ounces. So it was about 35% below where it should have been.

yes, in theory, but from my experience, when I tried to empty it, not all oil comes out, and I was barely able to fit about .45 L before it started to overflow...

All should be good
